I think it’s general good policy to back up your points with scientific studies/statistically representative surveys.

I wouldn’t give anecdotal evidence, those are usually worthless.

For example: “I know one guy who’s tall and earns six figures, and another short guy I know makes way less.”- worthless anecdote and shows nothing of overall trends. Plus the other person just pull out a BS anecdote of their own like “I know one guy who’s short and who makes 6 figures”.

“Studies show that on average, a 1.8% gain of wages for every 1 inch of height.”- example of valuable evidence that the person you are talking to can not refute out of hand.

But hey, remember you can flip this on the person you’re arguing with... make them show studies supporting X feminist phenomenon.

If it really comes down to it, you can point out errors in their study conclusions (for example most studies purporting to prove gender wage gap don’t consider difference in occupation choice).

You're lucky if you get somebody who's asking this, most of the morons I end up arguing with usually do their utmost to pretend because 'women have it worse' that it's not a problem or they men don't experience discrimination. Alternatively, if I'm arguing with a true fanatic, they don't even bother asking for examples and just go straight to attacking me specifically.

No, when asked for examples of something I am referring to I give them to both males and females. Seems request for examples is an attempt to clarify the complaint/disagreement not deflect it.

I've noticed this sometimes. I'm not sure if it's a conscious move or not but my working theory is that it's an attempt to make you look/feel petty by asking to be specific when you're not upset about the trees, but the forest.

To illustrate, we get in a fight and I say I'm tired of having to pick up after her all the time. She denies that and says to name an example. I fall for it and bring up how last night I went into the kitchen and had to put away the bread and cheese and dishes because she made a sand which and left everything on the counter to go bad. Then suddenly the argument is about how petty I am because I had to close a loaf of bread, and what if she was going to make another sandwich, and so on.

In reality, I'm not upset about the bread. I'm upset about the dozens of other breads, and the shoes, and the mail, and the dishes... but if she can demand an example and make it about that one bread, I look like the bad guy.

I have both been asked and asked this question myself. When I ask, it's because I've usually been attacked by my soon to be ex with something vague, and I want her to clarify what she's saying...and she never does. When she asks, it's because she wants me to actually say what the example is so she can tell me 1) how it's not her problem that I feel that way, 2) that I'm completely wrong or 3) to hear something that upsets her so she can feel justified in lashing out more with her narcissistic rage attacks.

But maybe that's just me.

This is why I try to illustrate statistics with news stories - it's a lot more effective. I also reference men's stories on www.menarehuman.com.
