I see nothing wrong there, other than the fertility of the population is likely to decrease because of in vitro babies.

The process doesn't really allow for the incapable sperms to be eliminated, so more babies who will have the likelihood to have worse sperm quality (or children with worse sperm quality) will be born.

I wish the women who decided to have a baby on their own decided to adopt instead, but I understand the urge to have their own biological baby.

There's also some controversion because some doctors like to replace the donor's sperm with their own, or the donors might be mixed up and the woman ends up with a baby from a man she wouldn't choose.

Not long ago, a person on this subreddit told me "just wait till we have artificial wombs, women won't be needed after that" so I guess that many men would go for the option of having a baby while single, if they had the option, too.

I don't think there's anything morally wrong with being a single parent.

I don't care, this has nothing to do with Men's Issues.

I fail to see how this is directly a men's issue topic.

The article says there haven’t been any legal cases regarding private sperm donors. That may be true in Australia but I know Canada, the UK and U.S. have had cases of donors being sued for child support. We’ve also seen cases of ex-wives getting a man’s sperm from a clinic and suing for child support. In addition, we’ve seen “guaranteed” privacy laws overturned with the child being given the name of the donor when he was promised his identity would stay confidential.

With more women turning to sperm donors, we will likely see more of these kinds of issues arise. Related, who knows what laws may come in the future. As more and more single mothers file for government support, the government may very well turn to donors as a means of support.

While I think many studies indicate children with two parents tend to do better, I’m not opposed to single parenting. My concern is more about how this may impact sperm donors in the future as well as tax payer funding to single mothers.
