I was wondering if anyone is familiar with any study or survey where people were asked in a hypothetical situation if they had the opportunity to save one woman's life or X number of men, what the consensus threshold would be

People don't tick that way. There's a good chance you'd get the answer 1 man = worth 1 woman. Simply because people will consider your question rationally. The experiment really needs to be a little more sophisticated if you want to uncover the bias (which is very real, I agree).

Try starting at any real-life situation in which you see the bias, and reducing it to a laboratory setting that involves reproducable quantitative measurements. This top-down approach to getting a good experiment is probably more effective than your bottom-up approach (start at the principle and try to dress it up as a real-life situation).

In the UK, the 'value' of your life is calculated as QALYs, and this is used to decide if it's worthwhile treating you on the NHS or letting you suffer/die instead.

Also, your question depends on the situation: if the population numbers are down severely, then clearly women of childbearing age are more 'valuable'. If the barbarians are at the gate, young men will be more important, and in a society of mostly young but ignorant people, older men and women who can lead and advise are more worthwhile preserving.
