Because the Guardian is dying in a horrid way. Because they need the internet to die so that they may live. Because this is a sludge pit of sleaze that has reduced itself to a glorified lifestyle magazine for sneering elitist snobs.

Just remember the wisdom of the classic comedy Yes Minister:

Hacker: Don't tell me about the press, I know exactly who reads the papers: the Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country; the Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country; the Times is read by people who actually do run the country; the Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country; the Financial Times is read by people who own the country; the Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country; and the The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is. Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun? Bernard: Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big tits.

People who think they ought to run the country are the sort to decide that no-one can talk back anywhere. It shatters the illusion.

This is a classic case of “whataboutery” and – specifically – “What about the men?”. In tone and content it adds nothing of value, and derails the conversation. Plus it is sexist, which our guidelines make clear won’t be tolerated.

Because of the internet, media "elites" no longer have exclusive control of what gets published and what not.

It pisses them off horrendously. They want the control.

The guardian, like most of the regressive left, is traditionally of the belief that free speech, innocent until proven guilty, and using science to improve the world, are bad things.

I think recently there was a poll in which most guardian readers had difficulty completing a grade 3 math problem. That pretty much encapsulates everything

1. The establishment uses the press to control public opinion. Originally this was called propoganda, but that got a bad name in WWII so it became 'public relations'. Read Edward Bernays, the father of this art.

2. The press reaps copious rewards from this process. Here, for example, is one of Tom Brokaw's houses

3. The Internet Completely bypasses establishment media, which is dying This is why print newspapers are pretty much exinct, why nobody watches the evening news if they're not over 60, cable news is down, nobody goes to the theatre any more, broadcast TV and cable are both struggling - it's all dying.

4. The elite can no longer manage public opinion. Do you think we would have insurgents in both parties without the internet, for fundraising and promotion and getting the messages out? Pro tip, the people that own the country would rather not loose control of it before they can strip all the wealth and export all the jobs!

5. So, media income and elite power are both threatened. This gives the media a reason to print bullshit about trolls, and gives the government reasons to pass bullshit laws to cripple the internet.
