This is called controlling the narrative.

Humans are social creatures, and often look to be at least accepted by others in some form or fashion.

When someone speaks against your views, you can try to shut them down by disagreeing with them. A lot of people will back down when challenged for many different reasons. Sometimes just to avoid a fight. For example.

If the original person continues to push the issue, other opponents may jump in to shut down this person. Additionally, some may jump in to shut the original person down just to try to secure social harmony by stopping the argument.

(Just look at normal human behavior, bar fights and street confrontations are great examples. Two will start getting verbal and slightly physical and others who have no stake in it will often run in to stop the fight.)

When others see this, they see how this dissenter is shut down and treated and thus are less likely to voice their concern. They have nipped the opposition in the bud, so to speak, by controlling the narrative.

Notice feminist tactics. You rarely see a vocal feminist by themselves. Nearly always in a group. I notice when alone if they speak up, they often immediately go for the victim sympathy card, which may be able to attract the "peacekeepers" to act in their favor.

It's not womansplaining, it's femsplaining. Many women agree with men, the ad is in bad form.

One response I've gotten was, "You can't get upset about men being shamed if all you do is be aggressive!" She then proceeded to call me a sexist because I thought being labelled a total brute just because of my gender was unfair.

Femsplaining. And yes women explaining to men their own experiences is far more common than men doing this to women. It's not even close.

Well, next time you get push-back just say, "Thanks for femsplaining that to me. It wasn't necessary but I appreciate the effort"

Then you go on to ignore them like they don't exist. Drives them crazy.
