Once i went to a friends house and on arrival they were having a heated argument she threw a cellphone at him and it missed him but embedded itself into the wall! She came at him with a kitchen knife and he had to pick up a frying pan to deflect the blow. Eventually he pushed her away and she called the police, and tried to have him arrested! If I hadn't been there they probably would have taken her side And yes this actually happened!!

Firstly, I'm sorry your experiences have been treated disrespectfully. No-one should be made to feel that being subjected to violence is not worth correcting or preventing.

IMO this really depends on your environment. I've come across people who passionately work against violence towards and among males, fight it being dismissed, and put huge efforts into supporting male victims of violence of any kind, but I've also come across those who think even small boys being beaten is fine because it toughens them up, that boys just shouldn't cry or complain, and that men are just generally more violent so it's one of those things that just has to be accepted. If you are surrounded by the first group you will have a radically different experience to the latter.

One big problem I think we have (certainly in the UK) is that the big narratives against violence are not only very muddled but also don't reflect what's happening on ground level. For example, we say we don't like violence on the streets in the same news segment where we say it's totally normal for young men to get into fights, so we tell our kids not to fight, but we don't actually get that shocked or do much if our mates start knocking each other about on a night out. That's just 'what blokes do when they've had a few'.

There's also funding issues for support services. If a social worker comes into a house with 4 kids all covered in bruises and everyone says they just keep fighting 'as kids do' it probably won't be looked at all that much further, but it really should be. In an ideal world the children would be carefully spoken to be sure they are just fighting among themselves, and some tools given to the family to stop that kind of fighting even if it is just from the kids, but there is not a support service in the UK that has those kinds of funds.

So I think the narrative that males should just be able to handle violence is being challenged broadly (the young people I work with certainly seem to know better) but changing ideas and habits around gender norms takes a loooooooooooooong time and we're nowhere near where we need to be yet.

I think to an extent this may be true but it is definitely less acceptable for boys to be subjected to violence these days. In previous decades no one would have batted an eye if you beat up your kid and this is now unacceptable for anyone.

We live in gynocracy, where all is created to make good life for women and men are only seen as tools to make their life easier/better. Even patriarchy that women hate some much is just another form of gynocracy
