I don't care if she keeps playing.

What I care about is that there was absolutely fuck all for punishment, at least that I am aware of, for what she did.

Let her do her time, whatever is appropriate.

I don't think they're standing up for Hope Solo as a person, but standing up her on principal. I think they're trying to stand up for the principal that no one should get banned from sports for domestic violence or crime in general. The sports leagues/associations aren't a real court with methods and procedures. Leave the law and punishment to the legal system, but leave the sports players with their jobs.
