Divorce lawyers that represent women can be kind of fucking scummy. I've heard of many cases of false: child abuse allegations, forced prostitution, physical abuse... all in order to get a higher sum.
The shittiest part of the whole process is often the women are (more or less) convinced to say these kind of things in court.
Reason being... yes, money! Not in the way that you would think, but more in the way to keep them on the case for a longer period of time.
They will convince the wife to write a story out about this... then use this as leverage against the male (typically the role on the receiving end), to make him renegotiate the terms. It isn't really the renegotiation that is where the money is... it's the time between the next meetings where the money is. you see, they aren't on a "flat rate". The longer, more complicated these cases get drawn out, the more money both lawyers make.
Most Attorneys will (obviously) say "I personally would never do that, it is illegal and unethical.." ect, ect, ect... Let me let you in on a little secret (as a person who has a sister who is a Paralegal for a Divorce Attorney in TN)... they all fucking do it. All of them.

Pretty sure that perjury standard would have been easier to overcome. I mean men do get convicted more often than women for the same crimes, and face longer sentences. I don't see why that same double standard wouldn't apply here.

As I've been going through my divorce, outright misleading the court by my ex-wife and her attorney is ignored, but one judge got openly stated that he considered holding me in contempt when I explained that I didn't know how many hours I would work in an average week, because I got hired same day as the court hearing. My exes attorney actually stepped in and asked the judge to set aside the issue so they could produce more accurate information.
We've since gotten a new judge, thankfully

Unfortunately, he'd technically be kinda correct and kinda incorrect
For divorce, you have to submit forms detailing income and expenses, which I did, but I was unemployed when I submitted it. So on the one hand, you could say that since I got hired, I should know about how many hours my employer intended for me to work. On the other hand, the only job I've ever had where my hours matched my expectations upon hire was the military, because I expected to work a lot of hours.
Seeing as this was a child support hearing, this reaction probably also stems from the fact that 1) I wasn't giving my ex anything at the time (kinda hard to do so when you have no income) and 2) the case before us was mind numbingly stupid (couple spent almost an hour arguing over a cat. Not that the cat was special to one of them, but because neither wanted to be "embarrassed by having to get a new pet". I can kinda understand being impatient after that, but I'm glad we got a new judge a few weeks later

Sure but I mean, come on, extenuating circumstances. Worst case postpone the decision until your employer tells you how many hours you'd have been working.
It's understandable that it would have tried the judge's patience, but still, one should do one's best to be impartial. It also doesn't excuse the blatant favoritism where your ex lied and mislead the court and that was totally fine, but your very accurate and truthful statement would have held you in contempt of court.

That's what eventually ended up happening, but mostly because her attorney had the common sense to ask for time for more information

I'm not trying to excuse that, but the fact of the matter is simply that if you get accused of abuse in divorce proceedings, unless you have her explicitly stating that she's lying specifically to screw you over, the court isn't going to care. Additionally, judges have a pretty wide latitude, as they can hold someone in contempt for all kinds of things.
