Actually went to read the article. If anything it was her friends that cost her the position when they shared it on social media, in efforts to get her the position back, which wasn't in danger until said efforts gained the attention of NASA. Hickman deleted his post, didn't want to cost her the position, and even volunteered to get her a position closer to what she wanted.

If asking it would look more like tapping in the shoulder and asking, “would you please mind your language?” Rather than just telling straight up “Mind your language.” But then again this is on the internet so I have no idea what tone was on that reply.
Companies like these really does not like swearing. Probably afraid of it might make it look bad even if most people does not care. Some just like to nip things off even if it is the size of a pea.
