I am 24 working as an entry level chemist/scientist in the USA. I stay fit, healthy, etc but I admittedly haven’t gone in many dates at all in recent years.
I downloaded tinder/bumble curiously and looked around. I went on a few first dates but nothing clicked for me with them. So then I curiously downloaded tinder passport just to click around in various locations as I am open to relocation (I only moved to this city/state a year ago for work).
From there I met a guy who I previously thought couldnt exist. He is a year older than me, originally from Oslo, Norway but lives and works in the London area, UK. Since July 2018, we’ve FaceTimed at least an hour or more a day. He has verified my identity and I’ve verified his. He knows literally everything there is to know about me (my background, family relationships , career goals, n-count, etc) and I know so much about him. We’ve been realistic- have encouraged each other to go on dates with locals but we still always would rather talk to each other.
We’re very very close to each other. His family knows about me/ his mom asks about me when the weather in my area is bad. He knows that hypothetically/ for the right man I’m always willing to “make it happen.” Meaning that I’m open to relocating anywhere and that I’d stand by my husband wherever life takes us.
We also plan to visit each other. Either here in USA or a vacation in Europe. I told him I’d need some time to save money for it & he said he’d happily chip in or pay for a return flight if it means seeing me sooner rather than later.
For safety/obvious reasons I’d only move if I could first establish a source of income in the location. He has money and he told me that he would make sure I was taken care of no matter what if I was with him, which comforts me- but obviously it’s not a smart move to rely on him taking care of me right away.
How would you ladies navigate this? He and I want the same things in the same way. We both want kids- he wants to lead/take care of his family/wife financially and I want to establish an extra emergency fund for my future family in my 20s so that I can stay home with them until they’re school aged. It’s hard to not take all this seriously. In a way I would feel honored to be his lady as I’m so happy I could catch his attention. In 10 years time I envision myself practicing Norwegian for a future citizenship test etc or learning his mom’s recipes from her etc.
Tl;dr— a happy family led by a strong husband is my priority in life. Everything else, though important, is secondary- including which job I’m working.
With that in mind how would you navigate this distance scenario with so much real potential? Would you go on vacation with him (of course telling others where you’re going) ?
How much would you be willing to change about your life in a situation like this ?
