As a guy: He's probably interested and he'd love it if you made the first move, trust me it goes a long way. Just be gradual and try not to be too overbearing.

In my experience, men really like someone who sincerely admires them. My husband, when I met him was this sort of gruff-nononsense sort of guy that all the men in our friend circle looked up to. Plenty of girls admired him too, but they all tried the slutty dumb girl angle, and he wasn't biting.

I knew I liked his style and did have an honest question about something he knew a lot about, so I simply walked up to him at a party and asked. We spend the entire night chatting, and I while I didn't fawn all over him, I treated him like someone I really respected.

5 years later and we have a kid and a house and a loving relationship.

I say go for it. Show your admiration for his work, for his thoughts, and his wit and chances are he will know you're a quality woman who has taken interest. For the record, my own husband (this came out years later) decided I was the type he wanted to marry within the first 2 weeks we dated. So you know, what do you have to lose?

Like TRP says, if you're both in college, he's seeing all the girls around him sleeping with douche bags (riding the carousel), and like a lot of guys, will eventually reach 30 and decide that he doesn't want any of those used up sluts and will pursue a girl in her early 20's to settle down with.

So, that being the case, you need to act now while you're young, because you don't want to be sharing the same demographic with those girls in a few years.

In my opinion, you should go for it, use the camera as a pretext for him to spend time with you looking for a new camera, and then use all the correct body language/flirting to display interest, and if he reciprocates then great, that's about all you can do.

We don't usually advise approaching a guy, but in your case, it probably wouldn't hurt to just chat with him about camera stuff. If you guys hit it off, then great! But long distance relationships are difficult, so he may not go a romantic route with you.

You can even go the indirect route (may be better) and post about the camera and see if he comments or inboxes you about it. If so, you've successfully gotten him to approach instead, which is probably a better strategy. If he doesn't, then you'll know he's not interested at all.

You'd potentially be creating a covert contract by messaging him and then hoping he'll escalate. It's better to let him come to you.

it sounds like you have a lot going for you on making this work out, and it sounds like a win-win situation for both of you. i think that messaging him about a common interest (photography) and asking him for advice is a perfect way of getting back in touch with him.
