My fiance when he gets overwhelmed/too stressed gets in a very negative mood and instigates. He's a bit emotionally reactive but is able to get over it fast and not holds grudges. When he feels attacked he gets defensive which makes me get defensive. I wish he could communicate more calm and logically with me. It's a cultural thing he's Israeli and they're very emotionally expressive so even normal conversations feel like arguements sometimes. Every time he gets like that I tell myself to not take it personally but it's hard. I tend to be a bit sensitive and find it difficult to let emotions go. Especially when I feel disrespected. So I end up letting my emotions take over because I feel unappreciated and unloved. It makes me wonder if my relationship is healthy and if he's the best one for me. My hamster runs at full speed internally. Then I end up snapping at him and making things 10x worse. He ends up apologizing later in the day because he knows his complaining and attitude effect me. I tell myself to hold my tongue but in the moment I get so frustrated and hurt. I've read Fascinating Womanhood and try to follow it but consistency is where I struggle. I do good until I get tested then I go back to bad behaviors. Any tips? What do you do when your husbands act rude, inconsiderate, or push buttons? Any tips to be more mindful of cultural differences in terms of communication and emotional expression? I grew up in a very emotionally distant reserved household while his family is loud & like to argue (they don't take it personally and are very close).
