My ex (22M) and I (21F) broke up in September of 2022, because he wasn’t bettering himself (becoming a man) nor did he value me enough to spend time with me being long distance for the first time since I’ve moved to a new state. (Slight back story) I broke it off with him after some convincing from my younger sister and I blocked him on everything except Facebook because I’m not an avid user.

I reached out to him in November of 2022 to speak with him about why I left in more depth and he wanted to tell me that he understood/finally saw how he was wrong for how he acted and is actively trying to do better. I told him that was great and that I liked his new found accountability. We talked for hours, then I told him I would go back to being silent and would check up on him in September of 2023.

He reached out to me around January 10th 2023 way before the date I said I would talk to him. I didn’t see it until three days later. We talked and he sounds more mature he got a higher paying job and want to work to become the husband/father he knows he can be for our future. He also believes that I’m meant to be his wife and that we work well together. He says he has changed his mindset from a bf/gf mindset to a husband/father mindset and he is disappointed that it took him this long to realize how immature he has been in the past. Basically taking accountability for his actions and taking the correct steps to evolve into a mature masculine man.

Is he being genuine? I want to believe him and his efforts to be with me. I won’t go back to being in a relationship with him though at all (I told him that). If he wants me he will need to marry me (he would need my father’s blessing as well) I’ve learned to respect my dad and his perception of men. My dad told me he wasn’t valuing me and he was lazy, but ofc I chose not to listen because I loved him and how he made me feel (basically he spoke my love language).

Don’t beat me up in the comments for wanting to be married young and have my family’s blessing.
