Will it only be the two of you? If so, I don't recommend doing this, at any age, unless you want to sleep with a man. A night in, alone, is an invitation for sex. Even at 17, he'll likely take it as this. Perhaps have an activity planned, at a specific time, like a late movie, to get you out of the house before too long, without ruining your cozy night. Prior to that, plan some kind of activity. Make cookies or salt dough Christmas ornaments.

Let him know in advance that you won't be home alone. Find a way to mention it casually. Otherwise he will assume you're going to have sex and may be quite disappointed (or relieved). If he knows in advance, he won't be as nervous. And that will make things less awkward.

And if you're going to get crafty with a 17 year old boy, I strongly suggest you make something edible. Bigger portions!

Your goal for the evening should be achieve a low stress and fun time. Keys to this is avoiding any awkward situations.

The two best remedies are:

1.) Having a definitive plan. Know what you guys are going to do before he gets there.

When he first gets there, introduce him to where you live. Show him where the bathroom is, where kitchen is, where to get water, etc.

Also give him a heads up if anyone else is in the house. “Btw, my roommate is upstairs, so no setting off explosives” or “My parents don’t get home for 2 hours, so if you’re secretly trying to hit on my dad, that’s your chance.”

Then, ask him for his recommendation between two movies only. These are two movies you have already pre-selected. Like a funny show, comedy, or romantic comedy. Stay away from serious movies, or anything that requires your full attention.

Have a blanket ready on the couch for both of you to snuggle under.

2.) Say “Well, this isn’t awkward at all, lol” Acknowledging an awkward situation and then giggling about it will relax and disarm you both. He will love it. Or if anything embarrassing happens, (example, your cat poos on the coffee table), just laugh about it, and take care of it. No one is perfect, and he already likes you.
