I (20F/American) told my parents about my long distance boyfriend (25M/Norwegian) who I’ve been with for two months and they don’t approve. For some additional information, him and I have met in person and the chemistry, connection, and love does love up to our online connection.

Their major objections with him are that he’s not as attractive as I am, they think I can do better and find a more successful man in America, and they fear that if I were to marry my Norwegian and possibly move to his side of the world I would grow apart from my family in the US. Classic choose him or choose us scenario. They also have fears about him being so far away, that they can’t get to know him or his family well enough to approve of him, and so they’ve completely shut down the idea and withdrawn their support for my relationship without considering the potential our relationship could have, without attempting to know him or his family.

In his favor, he is the hardest worker I know, with strong character, and has accomplished a lot professionally for his age. He’s also loving, kind, and has always been so sure of our relationship and in choosing me, in spite of the curveballs thrown from my side. Our visions for the future align beautifully, as do our values, and I could see myself happily spending the rest of my life with him. I know he’s a good man and see potential in our relationship to blossom as we come from the same culture and have the same hobbies and interests even. We have to continue long distance while I finish my last two years in school but don’t know what to do at this point...

I don’t know if my family will ever open up their hearts to him and if their hard no will ever budge. I could use advice from you ladies on how to proceed and what to keep in mind while I navigate this difficult time. Thank you in advance for your love and support.
