I found this following post in a military related subreddit and its' message should be echoed here.

(In Iraq) We asked him where the good places to run were. He laughed and said this:

“Guys, when you get back home and you head to the bar to meet your next ex-wife, she isn’t going to look at you and say “damn, I bet that guy KILLS his 10k” no, she’s going to say “damn, I bet that guy could lift this whole bar”.

“No one gives a fuck about your 10k, go find the squat rack.”

I have only swallowed TRP recently but have been lifting for a while. With two of them conjoined I've been able to change my attitude and enter a state in which I will fake it till I make it.

I belong to my university's gym, where at the time I go I push the most weight in the entire gym. This is a extremely motivating and affirming situation to be in. Although I am squatting only 200 I have scrawny kids staring at me from the treadmills or though the glass in which students walking by can peer into the gym. At the end of my workout today in which I dead-lifted 240 3x5 on my last rep I dropped the bar as to give the kids around me a show. I turn around and see the scrawniest, nerdiest, pale, weak shouldered child I've ever seen on campus. He looks as if he just saw a woman giving birth to triplets. The pure shock and awe in his face at me working out made my dick instantly grow 4 inches. That kid is why I lift, because to him I am super human.

If I was to run a 10k in an amazing time there would be no shock and awe. I would simply be sweaty and gross looking without any scrawny kid staring at me.

You have to get big, you have to get strong, you HAVE to be able to THROW heavy weight around as if it is nothing. Cardio is important to being fit and well rounded, but no one will ever stand in awe at you for running.
