Yep. Some guys know or at least think it's their only chance. So they endure all kinds of humiliation for the chance to procreate. From an evolutionary standpoint, it can work. The genes don't care about the feelings of the organism.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

For some guys hard work of any kind is to be avoided at all costs. If work results in getting girls, well, they'll just spend their time on other things.

[–]Endorsed Contributormonsieurhire21 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It depends on what kind of work we are talking about here. If it's working at self-improvement, at least you hopefully improve yourself over time. If it's working at chasing around girls who aren't interested in you, or who appear to be uninterested, or who will be interested only after they sampled all the cocks at the buffet, well, then you spent your time, passed by on other opportunities, and misdirected energy; all for little to no reward.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

We are not born knowing the difference between wasted effort and useful effort, that too takes work and time to learn. Still, even a wasted effort that tests your metal is better than no effort at all. When depression era dads said that hard work 'builds character' that's what they meant.

[–]Endorsed Contributormonsieurhire24 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

There's nothing character building about supplicating to someone who isn't interested in you. If you've had the experience once, you don't need to keep having it again. Some describe the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. And the time you waste, you NEVER get it back, it's gone.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure who you think you're arguing against here. I was commenting on the low investment nature of the strategy in the comic and you're acting like I'm saying that all guys should be beta schlubs. No I am saying that guys would rather do nothing and wait around to get the girl when she slams into the wall than work on themselves and get some female attention while they're still young.

[–]Endorsed Contributormonsieurhire20 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your response was ambiguous and open to interpretation.

But waiting around, as you put it, IS work. He has to listen to her. He will inevitably be made to do things for her to be a "good" "friend." He will have to endure her getting balled by other guys, and the toll that takes. In fact, waiting around is hard work. And all the while he misses out on other opportunities.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree, I wasn't as clear as I could be.

I disagree that waiting around is hard work. I totally see it as the low energy way to deal with relationships. There are millions of women out there to choose from, rather than wait for this one, why not go look for a better one or better yet, many better ones? 'Nah, I'll just hang here, she'll come around. Plus I get to demonstrate my patience and that I'll 'fight' for her.' So long as 'fight' means 'I won't leave no matter how crazy you act or how many guys you go down on.' Waiting around isn't hard work, it's stupid, yes, possibly driven by social anxiety and/or laziness, but hard? I wouldn't say that.

[–]Endorsed Contributormonsieurhire20 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If someone is obsessed or fixated enough to "wait around" for one woman, than this woman is consuming a lot of their mental energy. They spend a lot of time thinking about her, justifying and rationalizing their choice to "be there." It is work. Also, women may pay lip service to things like "patience" in man, but a man who is patient in that situation may be signalling that he has nobody better to turn to, that he is undesired, and so on.

Another thing to consider is that the beta orbiter doesn't just get to "wait;" he'll likely be pressed into service in various ways. My ex-GF had a whole slew of men she pressed into service to do various menial tasks for her, like listen to her complain, help her move, help her paint her apartment. They all did it in the hopes that she would put out for them. Nope, she was just using them. I even pointed it out to her, but in her mind, the payment she gave them was the pleasure of her company.

The look on the female frog's face and the chick's face at the end is hilarious and tragic at the same time. By the way, sometimes a sneaky fucker frog will leap onto the female while she's waiting for the alpha to jump on her, resulting in a 3-way sandwich/frog orgy

[–]50-cal2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like this, I like this a lot. A humerous spin on a bitter pill.

[–]JDoorjam6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

XKCD did this pretty well, too.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea25 points26 points27 points 12 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

I'm fairly sure that was written unironically, Randall is one of the biggest blue-pilled feminists in existence.

[–]JDoorjam2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Errr...?

It's a comic called "Friends with Detriments" where the guy says that

the wistfulness in [the woman's] gaze and the tiny pause before [she says] "I love you will hint that this wasn't the ending [she] hoped for

and the punchline is that the guy who obviously doesn't care about this woman's feelings ironically says, "but he doesn't respect you!"

He's pretty obviously bashing orbiters.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I'd normally agree with that assessment, but Randall is a known hater of game and/or any social improvement. He's precisely the kind of guy that would spout nonsense like "Have you ever considered just treating her like a human being?"

He is a beta orbiter.

[–]JDoorjam4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You can be anti-PUA and anti-orbiter. It's not like those are the only two options in life, and they've both got their opponents.

Incidentally, what's nonsense about talking to women like they're human beings?

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I've rarely seen someone who simultaneously disparaged both BP and RP dominant strategies. Such an individual strikes as the kind who simply hates labels while still mimicking all the behaviours of a particular group.

Incidentally, what's nonsense about talking to women like they're human beings?

Nothing at all. The subtext when BP'ers say something like that is that they assume what we're doing isn't talking to them like human beings. They see Game as being a form of manipulation.

[–]Senior Contributorexit_sandman5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've rarely seen someone who simultaneously disparaged both BP and RP dominant strategies.

Randall is married for some years, therefore he can "afford" to be condescending towards orbiters since he's "out of the game", so to speak. Don't forget that feminists also bash orbiters, or rather the mindset they perceive behind orbiting (the intention to guilt-trip a woman who isn't interesting into a relationship and/or sex).

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I find this funny, as orbiter's are often "guilt-tripped" into performing various tasks and validation (things a woman wants out of a relationship) with proclamations of "its what a good guy would do" or the subtle suggestion that he might get laid. (He won't). The kind of orbiter bashing you mentioned above is total projection on their part.

[–]JDoorjam0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Orbiting isn't a "BP... dominant strategy," because there is no such thing as a BP strategy. By definition, BP is just everybody who isn't over in TRP. That's a big-ass universe of people.

And orbiters don't have an explicit strategy anyway, because if they actually thought about what they were doing, they'd realize they were being idiots.

I (obviously) am not a fan of orbiting or orbiters. And, I think that negging/dread game/etc., which are explicitly predicated on causing concern and self-doubt, are shitty and unnecessary tactics that work best on precisely the group that TRP claims to dislike: insecure women. So, again, they're really not contradictory positions.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Not having a plan of action is a strategy. A shitty one, but a strategy nonetheless. Similar to making chess moves on the fly. That is the dominant BP strategy because most men don't learn to observe relationships as the back-and-forth game that they are.

And, I think that negging/dread game/etc., which are explicitly predicated on causing concern and self-doubt, are shitty and unnecessary tactics that work best on precisely the group that TRP claims to dislike: insecure women

This is the go-to BluePill mantra. RP only works on weak, insecure women. Surely no confident woman would ever fall for it. BluePillers can't envision a world where it could be true, because the cognitive dissonance would be overwhelming.

It works on nearly all women. It works because it's a means of showing social status and confidence. Negging is simply flirtatious banter, ribbing a girl and being playful. What you're thinking of is Hard Negging, something reserved for specific women (especially bitchy stuck up girls).

[–]JDoorjam-2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Not having a plan of action is a strategy. A shitty one, but a strategy nonetheless.

No, it's really not, especially as I said explicit strategy. That's like saying not having a map is a map.

This is the go-to BluePill mantra. RP only works on weak, insecure women.

Didn't say that.

Surely no confident woman would ever fall for it.

Didn't say that either. I said it works best on insecure women, which I stand by.

And, incidentally, I'm a fan and proponent of showing social status and confidence. That's obviously attractive to women. I just don't think it needs, or ought, to be done by being negative. What I've observed is that people who respond the most to negging are the most likely to be negative themselves, which isn't attractive. I prefer positive people. They are also the most likely to be prone to theatrics and need continual emotional maintenance, which on this sub is often called shit-testing.

I'd rather avoid people who fall into those categories. Why use bait for a fish you don't want to catch?

[–]EducatedCavemen1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

How many woman have you successfully seduces if you don't use things like Negging and Dread game?

If you seduced anybody, how did you do it?

How new are you to the PUA/TRP community?

Serious questions.

[–]JDoorjam2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you're just using that term to mean "women I've had sex with," about 30. If you're counting women I've hooked up with without having sex with... more. 50? I don't know. Of those, a half-dozen or so ended up being relationships (using terms like "boyfriend/girlfriend," saying "I love you, etc.), and all of those were hook-ups that grew into relationships, so take those out or don't, depending on how you're counting.

I had never heard of the PUA community but was doing a lot of the things they suggest, the biggest of all being having and projecting confidence. Because I didn't really have an explicit game plan, it's hard to say "I did this and this and that," but the most important overall thing was to keep myself perceived as possibly attainable, and not get personally wrapped up in whether or not any specific woman was interested in me (sound familiar?). But I'd do that without using negging strategies by being smart, funny, engaged, and positive.

Again, for those reasons, I don't consider myself to be part of the "PUA" community. I heard about TRP a few months ago, and have been an active commenter only in the last month or so.

I see. What do you think a Neg really is, do you think its an insult?

[–]JDoorjam2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's a calculated display of disinterest which, yes, absolutely can include insults. This article over at Seduction Science pretty well explains what I mean when I say "negging."

[–]EducatedCavemen2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

“Hey, you’re a goof.”

“Hey… you look like that cartoon character… yeah that’s right, Rainbow Brite remember her?”

“You know, I like that outfit you’ve got on… but I don’t know… your shoes don’t really match. You should have gone with tan boots…”

“Did your shirt shrink in the laundry?”

“Your nose is a little red. You’re like an Eskimo. Cool.”

So you would never say something like this to a girl, because its a neg? They sound like normal banter. You said, "It's a calculated display of disinterest which, yes, absolutely can include insults." I agree with you, they can include insults but these are not insults, Or are they?

Don't you think that a neg is carried more on how it is said rather than what you say? If you say "Hey, you're a goof" with a smile on your face and in a playful tone it is seen friendly but if your say it with a mean look in your eyes and a solid voice its aggressive. Just like anything else you might say, even calling a girl Beautiful can be seen offensive if you make it sound sarcastic and calling somebody a piece of shit can somehow become a compliment if said with the right tone.

You also said that negs work best on a insecure woman. Well anything works best on an insecure person because they are insecure. Insecure people are in this pessimistic state of mind, they don't know what to believe. Whether a good or bad person wants to talk to them the insecure person still distrust both equally.

Then you continued and said, "What I've observed is that people who respond the most to negging are the most likely to be negative themselves, which isn't attractive. I prefer positive people...I'd rather avoid people who fall into those categories..." to which I agree, but negs work for all people, male or female, so how can you tell who is positive and who is negative if the results are the same? most people look/behave/act the same and we don't read minds. When I approach a girl, I approach her because I think she is attractive and I do it without thinking how her day is, if she has a cold, if she has a bf/husband, if somebody in her family just died or if she had any traumatizing experiences during her childhood. The only way to know if somebody is insecure is if you already know them(you can say that I can tell if somebody is insecure by the way they carry themselves based on their body language and the way they are dressed but most insecure people dress like shit so I wouldn't approach anyways. Like you said, that is not attractive).

I'm pretty sure you have used negs(whether you know it or not) on at least one of those 50 girls. A neg is a natural thing, all that PUAs did was give it a name and a strategic value. Women used it as well, more than men. They call it "Playful Teasing".

If you base things off of feelings then all of Seduction is wrong and you having seduced 50 girls and fucked 30 makes you an asshole, but that is not the case is it? Like they say, "All is fair in love and war"

[–]JDoorjam1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't think I can imagine a scenario in which I'd say any of those things to someone, no. I'd say 2-5 are clearly insults -- I notice in your example of how tone can change the context, you took #1, and then softened it to the point where it's not a neg (i.e., a show of disinterest) anymore.

how can you tell who is positive and who is negative if the results are the same?

By having a three-minute conversation. You can tell who is positive and who is negative in that amount of time.

I'm pretty sure you have used negs(whether you know it or not) on at least one of those 50 girls. [...] Women used it as well, more than men. They call it "Playful Teasing".

Teasing is hardly a calculated show of disinterest.

If you base things off of feelings then all of Seduction is wrong and you having seduced 50 girls and fucked 30 makes you an asshole, but that is not the case is it?

What? I don't understand what that sentence means. Can you explain that to me a different way?

[–]EducatedCavemen1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

2-5 insults? Wow, okay. I never said that a neg is a "Show of Disinterest" that is your definition. I agreed with you that sometimes people think an insult is a good neg though. If you read the Glossary in /r/seduction a neg is described as the opposite of a compliment, not an insult. An actual "Show(indicator) of Disinterest" is called an IOD. The way I see it is if you are trying to attract someone why would you want to show disinterest? you don't want to show neediness or desperation but neither disinterest.

To me a neg is just banter. The reason the tone of the example is like that is because I wanted to show that depending on how you say something the meaning changes. I never tried to make that line sound like an insult(Show of Disinterest).

By having a three-minute conversation. You can tell who is positive and who is negative in that amount of time.

That is what I tried to say in the rest of that paragraph. I just came from the park and I was thinking about that line specifically. For some reason I was thinking that you were trying to say that PUAs pray on the insecure. Which is why I followed by saying that when I approach a girl, I go because I am attracted by her not because I am trying to sabotage her life. I'm pretty sure most do that as well.

Teasing is hardly a calculated show of disinterest.

Again, your definition.

What? I don't understand what that sentence means. Can you explain that to me a different way?

When you try to get with(seduce) somebody, You don't know what to expect, you don't know this person. Not even after 3 minutes of conversation like you said. When I got to a girl I don't start asking personal questions(that shit is creepy, especially if she just met you) so I create banter, joke here and there, light questions, keep the momentum of the conversation at a nice pace. I can't start to question my negs or my motives because she could be offended. Who knows but her. The only way I can know is if I do it, no morals just go in raw. A neg is a natural part of seducing, so when you start to say this is not right then all of seducing is not right because if you accidentally say a neg or if you keep thinking of what to say because you don't want to say a neg you are probably are going to start doubting yourself which will fuck you up. So if saying a neg to one girl is wrong then negging 50 is horrible. Like they say, "All is fair in love and war".
