From what I see so far, there are 16 confirmed speakers. As an organizer, you have to pay for hotel stays for 4 days for all 16, ticket planes, renting the event room, food, etc.

Let's say that hotel tickets are $1000 bucks for 4 night stays (you won't host your speakers in a hostel, would you?).

Add $1000 for plane tickets including return.

32k so far.

Add credit card charges for the transactions, another 3k.

35k so far.

Add food for Heroes Dinner or however it's called: 120 people x $100 worth of food/drinks each, another 12k.

47k so far.

If your assumption that the tickets were $200 bucks, you'd make, at most, 20k in REVENUE. Just with the above costs you are 27k in debt as an organizer.

The tickets are 1.3k each, however.

Add the chance to meet like-minded individuals that you can start a business with or partnership or just simply become awesome friends with.

Can you really put a price on that?

Look man, the basic idea is that it all takes times.

Writing posts, marketing, convincing speakers to come, finding venues, booking hotels, managing accommodations, developing material, taking care of 120 people at once...

At the end of the day, probably the organizers look at, what? 20-30k in profit, at most?

If they are 5, that's 6k each (they have to pay for their hotel stays as well, probably plane tickets). 5k each

Most people there probably earn >40k/year

What is 5k out of 40? it's 12%

Would you do all that work that this event involves (probably a few MONTHS of work, convincing, researching, etc.) to increase your yearly income for 12%?

I wouldn't.

They probably don't do it for the money (although it's a nice benefit).

Hookers don't fuck you for sex, they do it for cash. Sex is a probably secondary positive outcome.

Organizers don't force you to pay your ticket. They really don't.

For one, I couldn't go because the whole ordeal would cost me more than i make in 6 months in my country. But if I earned 30-40k (or even more, why not), sure as hell i'd spend 2k to go see some probably smart guys.

It's not cheap to organize this. Sure, you get some money, but for US it's a really small return-on-investment. I would make more money researching 5 products for a month and selling them on Amazon.
