There's a girl in my course who does this.

She's the most good looking girl in the course, hands down. Very pretty. You know the kind, always posts pictures of herself on Facebook with the hand on the hips and head tilt, always out with her friends.

Well, she's got a boyfriend, but she never, ever advertises it. Gotta keep that hypergamy window open.

I know a girl. She has dozens of beta orbiters (seriously, I have never met a girl with more orbiters than she has). Before I knew about her serious beta cloud tendencies, we went out on a date that she initiated. On the date, "blah blah blah... my boyfriend... "... Nope'd outa there right quick. Her facebook clearly had no indication that she had a boyfriend. I knew her, admittedly only tangentially, for a few YEARS before this, and no mention of a dick in her life. I'm in security, mainly information security, so we were talking one day about personal security. She claimed that she didn't put any personally identifiable information on her facebook for "security reasons", including not putting her relationship status.

Her boyfriend lives on the other side of the planet. Basically, she keeps him around so she can easily reject guys, and keep the orbiter cloud at bay. She has broken up with him so she could date someone locally (who pumped and dumped her). The guy has asked her to marry him. She doesn't want to, and I suspect its not because, as she says, she never wants to get married because her parents got divorced.

It's all about keeping her cloud at bay. When she wants to open her legs, she just dumps the foreign loser, fucks a guy, then gets back together with him. He is such a bitch that he keeps coming back, and will pay for her trips to see him (conveniently, they meet somewhere that she wants to see). When she doesn't have someone nailing her to the wall, she can just go "I have a boyfriend. He's from another country!" Which makes her sound cool, and special.

It's all just a game.

As a side note (talking in general terms, not to the OP):

Why bother with statuses on FB?

I don't care if betas care about FB, nor if women care ('cause FB is the easiest way to provide a woman with validation).

I use this as a mantra, because it helps me put life in perspective. I also think there's RP gold in this: FB is not real life.

My most hamstered female friend (a 65 year old pagan!) askblamed me why I didn't change my status on FB when I got a gf.

As a man, I can honestly say it's because I have as little PI publicly available on my FB account as possible. For really real. I can assume women do the same, but I have a doubt in the back of my mind that it's more game to them than actual security.
