Summary
One of the important aspects of TRP is trimming the fat from your life. Stop orbiting your oneitis, ghost your crazy ex girlfriend, don't talk to feminists, shave your neckbeard, etc. Addictions are another negative found in most of our lives. People with addictions are often advised to drop them cold turkey. While it is not our job to sugarcoat the red pill, there is no reason to make it tougher to swallow. The following method has made it easier for me to break my addictions.
Disclaimer
I use the word overdose throughout this post metaphorically. Do not use this method to break addictions that you could literally overdose on. That includes, but is not limited to, typical addictions like alcohol and other drugs, masturbation, etc. I do not use the word for its shock value; I use the word because it best describes the point I am trying to make.
Body
When someone with oneitis comes to TRP for advice, one of the common and most helpful answers is GFTOW. The reasoning behind this suggestion is to help the person with oneitis realize that no woman is special and their oneitis, or addiction, is not worth their time. An unexpected result of fucking ten other woman is less or a loss of interest in sloots.
Let's reflect on the underlying psychology behind the previous advice. Man has an addiction (oneitis). We suggest that he overdose on that addiction (GFTOW). Man gets over addiction (oneitis). Man never gets addicted (oneitis) again.
I propose that one might use the psychology of the GFTOW advice to curb different addictions. I have personally found this helpful in getting over many of my addictions, big and small. It's been a while since I posted here because this very advice helped me get over my obsession with lurking here. First, let's consider the advice given to men with other addictions:
Addicted to reading TRP? Stop reading it and start living it. Addicted to video games? Stop playing them and go outside. Addicted to... Stop...
Telling people with addictions to drop them cold turkey is like telling someone with oneitis to go MGTOW. The problem with this type of advice is it places unrealistic expectations on the people asking for help. While it is not our job to sugarcoat the red pill, there is no reason to make it tougher to swallow.
Dropping addictions cold turkey often leads to withdrawal and relapse. Overdosing on addictions, on the other hand, leads to a necessary period of detoxification. In the case of addictions that are not physical, but mental, overdosing can be a permanent cure.
Think of your favorite song right now. The song that you can't get out of your head and have been listening to on repeat for a week. Now think of your last favorite song. The song that you skip and are tired of listening to. You could not get enough of it and now you've had enough of it. You don't know when it happened, but you crossed the threshold between these two feelings. The same thing will happen to the song you love right now and the song you'll love next week.
The previous was an example of how you unintentionally overdose on our addictions. By overdosing on your addictions, you turn them from something you love into something you hate. The following is an example of how you might intentionally overdose on an addiction you want to break.
Addicted to reddit?
You read the current top post. Then you read every comment. Then you read the next top post. Then you read every comment. Now things are starting to get boring. You start reading your third post and are starting to feel guilty. By the time you start reading the comments on this page you want to close the page because you've realized that you are wasting your time. You quickly close the page and say to yourself "I'm going to stop wasting time on reddit."
But you did that yesterday. You always close reddit when you begin to feel this way. You never endure the feeling. You merely get a taste of it, and you don't like how it tastes. Well call me daddy because today you're going to eat all of your vegetables.
Don't close the page. Keep reading reddit when you realize you're wasting your time. Head on over to your favorite subs and read so many posts you want to unsubscribe. Then read some more. Waste the rest of your day and hate every minute of it. When you wake up the next day you will never want to use reddit again.
Conclusion
Addictions are habits we hate to love. Turn your addictions into habits you hate.
