Hi all,
I've recently discovered this community and was amazed at the teachings and learnings everyone is discussing - it all seems too familiar.
I have a girl in my life who absolutely loves shit-testing direct TRP related methodologies and mindsets especially with regards to male behavior, dominance, and really the entire mindset of a man being a man. FYI this is a high-quality woman IMO who splits bills, takes my lead in public, helps maintain my home, offers to help with errands, is great with family/friends, etc.
My question, given the examples below, is how to maturely handle and disseminate a proper attitude when pressed against an otherwise high-quality woman in these scenarios? I don't think the unicorn woman exists, so I can handle some moderate compromise when it comes to her opinions (While I may reject or disagree, I do respect others opinions and attitudes). It is so easy for a woman to call out a man for all of the TRP topics and discussions, especially if they are intelligent and understand the livelihood and decisions needed of a modern day man.
Example #1, recently the "man of the house" discussion came up with regards to the man's role in a home and how he is treated and respected by the family, etc. and she continually brought up what about the woman of the house and her roles? To which I replied of course the woman is also to be respected, however, as we are different types of providers there are different contributions each person will contribute to a household. And she was just losing it - she kept eluding to the fact that the man sounded like he was superior based on his contributions (even though superiority was never mentioned in the conversation - she is creating the illusion of superiority in her mind). What is giving that man of the house idea such a negative connotation? Media? Upbringing? Feminism?
Example #2, this is more of an ongoing one, but she seems to be internally devastated that she doesn't make as much money as I do and it comes up often. This is a high quality woman with big aspirations, high-end healthcare career ($200k/year), a TRUE passion for her work and helping people. Although I will say she is a very career-selfish type, and she has and will drop me from her life in a second, albeit temporarily, to travel or perform long-term work engagements - often without my consent (this is probably a whole different conversation) Where does this hostility arise? I am in a completely different field with different aspirations and goals, it's not even close to comparable. How can I help her stop comparing herself? In general, how do you help a woman avoid comparison anxiety? I have seen in this in my friend's GFs and past relationships as well, if it's not MONEY, they will compare themselves to something/anything else or a combination of things - Looks, cars, careers, living situation, etc.
Cheers
