Hey guys,

I'm reading the Count of Monte Cristo, and although rather new to TRP (I mostly lurk and try to pick around the obviously misogynist young'ns), I thought I'd share this quote.

For those who need some context: The Count is out for revenge against everyone who wrongly put him in prison. He lets one of them know he's in Paris. Said guy drives by his house to come see him. Although the Count "isn't receiving guests", he does notice that said baddie has some pretty sweet horses...so he (The Count) tells his servant to buy them, no matter the cost.

The Count goes to visit the baddie later, and is introduced to baddie's wife. Turns out, the horses were "hers", and hubby sold them to the Count for a hefty profit (in addition, said horses were notably spirited for pulling a lady's carriage) - doesn't stop her from throwing a temper tantrum. The Count pulls the baddie aside and shares this gem with him:

"See," said the count, "how very ungrateful women are. Your kind attention, in providing for the safety of the baroness by disposing of the horses, does not seem to have made the least impression on her. But so it is; a woman will often, from mere willfulness, prefer that which is dangerous to that which is safe. Therefore, in my opinion, my dear baron, the best and easiest way is to leave them to their fancies, and allow them to act as they please, and then, if any mischief follows, why, at least, they have no one to blame but themselves."

Thought you'd guys would get a kick out of this...but just so this isn't a dead thread: Have you seen any other examples of this kind of thing in literature (INB4 Classic literature is full of this because TRP was normal and expected back then)?

Also - EXCELLENT read. The movie is...barely worthy of being called by the same title.
