Arthur was not giving her what she needed. He did not really appreciate the things about her that Lancelot (heh heh Lance a lot) did.

She was confused! You don't know what it is like to be a woman! Don't shame her! Look, if Arthur was the right man for her, and if he loved her the way she deserved to be loved, Guinevere never would have even looked at Lance-a-Lot-of-Chicks.

So, really, it is Arthur's fault.

Guinevere is the most despicable villain in Western Literature---yes, even worse than Eve; that bitch was set up to fail from the start and had an all powerful deity pimping her shit.

Guinevere single handedly did what no army or magic could do: bring down Heaven on Earth, all because she found the one man on Earth more alpha than King fucking Arthur.

Well, in all fairness, Arthur is the product of a rape:

"The sorcerer Merlin retrieves Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake for Uther Pendragon, who secures a brief alliance with Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall.** Uther's lust for Cornwall's wife Igrayne** soon ruins the truce, and Merlin agrees to help Uther to seduce Igrayne on the condition that he gives Merlin whatever results from his lust. I saw the film. Doesn't justify Guinevere's behavior though, but I think that was implied to be poetic justice or fate punishing Arthur for his Father's sins.

Uhmmmm...rape happens when someone doesn't consent, not when someone enthusiastrically consents then later discovers the guy is a lying asshole. That is a modern invention.

These are two different situations.

Uther wasn't a "lying asshole." He used magic to make himself look exactly like the woman's husband. This would be like a twin of a husband creeping into the man's bed at night and impersonating him to have sex with the wife when she was half-asleep. In the dark, the twin would look just like the husband. Had she known, she might not have enthusiastically consented. It would also be the same situation as in Revenge of the Nerds where the one nerd pretends to be the girl's boyfriend by wearing a mask.

A lying asshole would brag about how much money he has to get a woman into bed. A lying asshole would claim he wasn't married. The woman would still be consenting to sex with him though.

In your own example, you admit it she enthusiaistically consented. Something can be sleazy, dishonest, unethical, and wrong for a number of reasons, and still not be unconsenual sex (rape).

And you can't use expanded definitions invented a thousand years later to retcon clearly consensual sex acts in another era.

She consented to having sex with her husband, not some guy pretending to be her husband. This is a bit more extreme than consent under false pretenses; it's consent because of impersonation.

There's lying, and then there is impersonation. Impersonation, while a subset of lying, is not the same thing. The woman consented because she thought it was her husband. The person impersonated her husband. She didn't cheat on her husband with Mr. Alpha Fux because Mr. Alpha Fux falsely promised to kill her oppressive beta hubby and marry her himself. She didn't give in to lustful temptation. She thought she was having sex with her own husband, who was an alpha male in any case. This is fairy tale, granted, but believe it or not, this issue does occasionally arise. It would be like if you thought you were having sex with your wife or GF, only to find out later that a STD-ridden whore you absolutely hated who coincidentally looked like your wife had drugged you were half-asleep and had sex with you while making herself up like your wife so you'd be completely fooled, just so she could have your baby and stick you with the alimony check. The only difference would be that you'd be getting raped on a monthly basis for the child support payments.

Now there is no magic spell I know of that exists to allow impersonation to happen like in the fairy tale, but the combination of setting, psychology, and drugs is tantamount to force. You might also equate it to the rapist who says to his rape victim "If you don't scream, I won't kill you afterwards," or something like that, to get the rape victim to cooperate and make the rape easier. The victim may appear to consent, but it's under duress and false pretenses. A better example might be a prison guard who treats people who won't have "voluntary" sex with him/her intolerably to coerce volunteers into coming forward and consenting to sexual acts.

Also, let's continue to talk about having sex under false pretenses. Is it okay for a person to knowingly infect another person with an STD? Would you knowingly have unprotected sex with a girl with an STD? Suppose the girl lies to you and tells you she has no STDs, you sleep with her, and then find out otherwise. While perhaps not the technical defition of rape, you have definitely been exploited in a manner similar to rape.
