Long time lurker but the more I read TRP, the more I see it everywhere. Staff writer at the Atlantic reviews MacGyver at 30. Now look, I'm not defending the show as high art but as a kid of the 80s, I'm not going to lie, I loved it. But look at what she finds wrong with it:

  1. The guy is a nerd
  2. There are no other significant characters (i.e. women)

"It glorifies the single man—the single mullet—while treating other people as victims and saps.

Men acting alone, taking initiative? Oh the horror! This is so retrograde.. it must be stamped out.

TLDR: Media programming is teaching people that being a "man" is retrograde and out of fashion. Also, if a show isn't about women, there is nothing to see.
