I went to a latin dance club Friday night to meet a buddy of mine (really good dancer) and a girl I met through Tinder. I'm learning and have been taking lessons for the last 2-3 months. My date shows up close to an hour late with her friend in tow, after dancing with them for a bit, and as the evening wears on, she starts making more and more sure her friend is 'taken care of' and less and less time dancing. Which doesn't bother me over-much: she showed up late, and there was no connection between us, so whatever. I did bungle things a bit with her and her friend (I was trying the 'hit on her friend' dread game, and it sort of back-fired on me a bit as her friend was totally flattered and my 'date' lost interest/got jealous). I wasn't really into either one, but was enjoying myself and the evening.

I'd been making my own fun and dancing with other women at the club before my dates showed up, and there was no shortage of women after my 'date' lost interest in dancing with me. During one of these interludes where my 'dates' were dancing with other partners, I ended up dancing with a really attractive Iranian woman, long dark hair, great figure, surprisingly intelligent. The brief conversation during and after the dance was pretty interesting. After the dance, I thanked her then went back looking for my 'dates.'

I completely missed my chance for a number close or a set-up to ask for it later, because when I went looking for her to get another dance, she'd taken off.

Lesson: The lesson there was two-fold. Don't let whatever your date does bother you - you're there to enjoy yourself (hopefully with your date, but if they're not playing ball, find another one). And as if we need it reinforced, you have to strike while the iron is hot, because you won't get another chance. In my case I could have either a) asked for the number after we hit it off a bit, or b) because it's the Latin scene, asked her to come find me before she left. That latter move is one I'm going to try because it's a good test of her level of interest.
