It's more about listening really. Listen to what people say and ask followup questions.

The most important thing to learn is that rejection isn't a big deal. As a man, don't seek validation from other people. You set your own values and determine your own worth. As long as you live up to your standards and comport yourself with honor, it shouldn't bother you what other people think.

Be polite and respectful of other people, and it shouldn't matter when they reject you - which they will, by the way. I swear, I talk to 10 girls before I find one that's interested. And I go through 10 "interested" ones before I find one that is down to fuck. As long as I was polite and respectful to all of them, I'm always okay with that.

I don't think there are tricks that will make a girl like you. I mean, like PUA tricks. I think that she sees you (and it's not just physical appearance, she sees your status with friends or whatever) and she is or isn't attracted. And if she's not, there's no magical incantation that will make her attracted. But if she is attracted, and assuming you don't outright insult her, there's no way you can mess it up (at least, not on an initial meeting - the red pill stuff is about how men and women interact in relationships, which you're not in yet).

So the point of all this is, you walk into a room and there are 10 women there. Maybe one of them is attracted to you. But damned if I can tell which one. You approach one and say hi and she blows you off, maybe she says, "sorry I'm really just trying to hang out with my friends" - the only way you lose in this situation is if you let that get you down and stop trying, because then you miss the one girl who is attracted to you. If you think to yourself, "fuck me! I blew it! Instead of saying 'hi' I should have tried some line to make her laugh! I ruined it. It's my fault. I quit" - that's bullshit! All that happened was, she wasn't attracted to you. It's not a big deal. Move on to the next girl.

Just say, "hi, my name is wgatp, can I talk to you for a bit?" - ask groups how they know each other. Ask them what they do for fun. Get them talking about themselves. Anything that they say, ask polite questions about. Don't make fun of them. I met a girl last night who is studying 18th century Spanish weapons - as in, her parents are actually paying for her to study that shit in school. I didn't make jokes about how I like my coffee (for when she's inevitably working at starbucks). I asked her about Inca shit.

I said that I don't like PUA tricks, but there is still some value to it. One thing I learned is don't hang around too long. Don't overstay your welcome with someone who seems ambivalent to your presence. They'll get bored with you. If you can be out with a group of friends and say hi to someone, chat for 10 minutes, then go say hi to someone else, that's ideal. Then you can go back later.

There are great venues that make this easy. Bars have game nights, or trivia nights. Stuff like that.
