People here touch upon the wisdom of eastern/buddhist philosophies often, but not so often the wisdom contained in the Abrahamic religions. Take sin for example. The immature soul of modern man think of sins as enjoyable things that he wants to do but is forbidden by some man in the clouds because he wants us to suffer and strife. Sins are not this, they are natural behaviors in man and animal that exist in all of us, but we have to struggle to control them because they aren't good for us in the long run. Because we've reached wisdom and knowledge beyond the animal we are in a position to abuse our own souls. I want to write about gluttony.

For most people gluttony only applies to food, but I argue that it is much more and that gluttony can maybe be one of the largest problems for people today. Gluttony is all over-indulgence you do, and it is often from not knowing or trusting yourself. Alcoholism and drug abuse are gluttony problems. The Bible is strongly pro-alcohol, no matter how protestants feel about it. When we reach a certain age most of us should already have explored the effects of alcohol enough to not be interested in them anymore. Yet many people become alcoholic to varying degrees. The reason is because sober life is less interesting than being drunk. Which is sad, because being drunk is a really boring state of mind. That’s what people say for drug abuse as well. That they take the drugs just to feel normal. What they fail to realize is that their sober mind is trying to tell them their life isn’t pleasing. Their mind is trying to alert them to make them change their lives and they numb that signal because they don’t trust their own minds. Just like people eating too much don’t trust their own body saying it’s enough. Any addiction is gluttony. Going to the gym too much is gluttony. You’re feasting in an experience that you should have had enough of already. The mind should be exploring and be challenged. Gluttony is stagnation.

People’s behaviors and mindsets are many times gluttonous. We all know the guy or woman who always complains and can always find a negative perspective on a situation. They’re feasting in the feeling of powerlessness. Instead of being done with being powerless and take control of their lives, they chose to feast. People feast on obedience. Being self-sacrificing and hard working. Hard work is an experience we all should have, but it shouldn’t be the core of your soul. They don’t trust themselves to be the judge, so they obey and let others have responsibility. Nobody will thank you for going through life living for others. Many divorced men can agree to this.

People feast on dominance. Most of us went to schools were the main objective for the teachers were to have students obey. Some parents get a power trip from bossing their kids around, just aching for them to do something wrong so they can be told sternly. They don’t trust themselves being good enough parents that the children shouldn’t need to be supervised.

People feast on indignation. Just take a look at the front page here and it’s a lot of links from people searching for the latest ”feminist said this” to be upset over. People feast on victimhood in the same way.

All gluttony is rotting the mind and soul. A lot of people say they’ve watched a movie or some favorite movies more than 20 times. It is completely absurd to me, how can there be anything for you to be interested in after the first time, or at worst the second? How can people waste their time trying to be top dog of a social group of uninteresting people? How can people spend months and years playing a video game? How can people stay in abusive relationships? Either their minds take a long time to fully explore an experience or they’re feasting on it.
