This is absolutely ridiculous and sensationalist, to say the least. Even if technology were to become significantly more advanced in this area, there's still so many jobs that need a human to do. And plus, who is going to maintain all of these machines? One person loses a job flipping burgers, another person gains one fixing the machine that flips the burgers.

Even if your predictions were to be true up to the 50% unemployment bullshit and stuff, do you really think that the time and resources would be devoted to forcibly hook people into pods and sustain them? If it were that dire, there's no doubt it my mind people would just be killed. Imagine the resources needed to continually run a simulation like that and sustain everyone involved in it both physically and mentally. It's way easier to just drop a bomb and be done with it.

Hate to break it to ya, life isn't a sci-fi novel, The Matrix was just a movie, and you need to go outside.

AI is the solution, not the problem.

All the terrible things you list will occur regardless, due to exponential growth within a finite environment. We're already starting to see some of it... there just isn't much more growth to be squeezed out of the system. The easy gains have been made. Unless we find some new form of cheap, plentiful energy that matches or beats oil, you can kiss our growth rate goodbye. All existing debt is predicated on pulling forward prosperity from future growth.

If there's no growth (or even a decrease in the rate of growth), you get defaults across the board. Which means boom.

The answer is AI. It's the tech we need to continue growth. You want off this planet? AI is about our only chance. Hell, we could even switch off a system that requires perpetual growth and end up in some kind of star trek future where capitalism is surpassed.

I say bring it on.

Artificial Intelligence is just Economics by other means.

You will be managed by people who use AI to make their decisions, and those people will say they are not accountable, just the same way SJWs use committees to wield institutional power without individual accountability. AI is just committee automation, where a bunch of people agree on some rules and the AI produces "results," that affect your life. It is power without accountability, or as we know it, impunity.

AI is a weapon. It's just a matter of who gets to use it.

We will have started space colonization and exploration by the time this happens. Significantly huge amounts of jobs will open up due to this.

Personally I don't buy it. Humans are very bad at predicting the future, and any new technology is likely to cause consternation amongst the general populace. People like to feel certain about the future and the amount of uncertainty that AI holds has people in a tizzy. Still, if we want to predict the future with any reasonable amount of accuracy then we can always look to the past; there is truly nothing new under the sun.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be applied to everything in the future creating a revolution, however it will not be any more disruptive than other revolutions if the past is an indicator. The most recent revolution that ran its course, the Second Industrial Revolution (also known as the Technological Revolution) was a phase of rapid industrialization in the final third of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. It lasted from about 1870 up until the beginning of the First World War. During that revolution electricity was applied to everything. Electrification was the most powerful engineering advancement of the 20th century. At the time many people thought that electrification would be disastrous for the workforce and many people would be out of a job. If your job was to change the gas in gas lamps, then electric lamp posts would put you out of a job. If your job involved any kind of physical labour then an electrified machine could replace you; pumping water, sewing garments, etc.

What these people didn't count on is the vast improvements in productivity that electrification brought with it. The period from 1870 to 1890 saw the greatest increase in economic growth in such a short period as ever in previous history. Living standards improved significantly in the newly industrialized countries as the prices of goods fell dramatically due to the increases in productivity. For example, by installing electric lighting in factories, working conditions were greatly improved. The risk of fire was no longer an issue for the most part, and the fumes caused by gas lanterns were no longer present meaning that factory workers could work for longer. Similarly an electrified sewing machine meant that an individual seamstress was many times more efficient. While this did lead to higher unemployment amongst laborers, hard working people that were displaced quickly found work in newly invented areas. Someone was needed to repair and replace all of the newly electrified lights, sewing machines, and electric streetcars.

While an AI revolution is indeed coming, it's not nearly the apocalypse that the OP suggests. Keep your eyes open, make moves, and adapt to the changing environment and you'll be fine.

If AI was replacing jobs you would see productivity increasing as more output is produced per worker. Instead, productivity is decreasing. There is therefore something is wrong with your theory.

Unemployment will bring about a market crash, but this is a natural market occurance.

All economies adjust themselves with society, getting rid of the least efficient mechanisms in exchange for the most efficient ones.

But more realistically, those who know anything about AI research know we still have a long way to go before making anything close to a general intelligence.

We're still trying to figure out how to accurately define "human," to a machine.

You cannot stop the "AI revolution". Imagine a business owner that instead of hiring 20 people will rent server time on something like Amazon cloud AI. It's just too profitable not to.
Yes, there will be unemployment BUT as with the industrial revolution, the mechanization of agriculture, the made in china effect and few others, people will find other jobs and they will find them fast.
They will, b\c you don't do a follow up on the AI. You assume, the "AI revolution" will not lead to creation of new kinds of jobs.
Will people hit the steets to protest, most likely yes, probably something like a cross between Occupy WallSteet and BLM hooligans (most likely it will be the same kind of people as with these two movements, a cross between "muh benefits" and "why does CEO earn millions and I earn nothing flipping burgers").
I'm gonna skip the mass shootings per hour and nuclear war, take a guess why.
