How does hypergamy play in with 'alpha fucks/beta bucks' and cuckolding behavior?

The definition of hypergamy from wikipedia says its the practice of marrying a spouse of a higher social status or caste. I think most of us have heard it used to describe the impulse or compulsion to practice hypergamy, so I'll use that form as well.

The alpha fucks/beta bucks idea has been used to describe both situations where the woman is married and when the woman isn't married; in either case, the beta provides resources and gets little to no sex, while the alpha gets all of the sex for no resources or even some resources from the woman. Cuckoldry feels like the next step worse; beta and woman raise alpha's child under deception.

What I'm having a hard time reconciling is how the two play together. If hypergamy is just about the social caste, and then shouldn't it only matter when deciding a long term beta provider? If the alpha is more for the genes and not the social caste, then hypergamy shouldn't be in play. Why would there be a compulsion to aim for an alpha of a higher social caste if the alpha fucks/beta bucks, cad/dad dichotomy, and cuckoldry all not needing or using the resources or social standing from the alpha.

If hypergamy is more wanting to marry a spouse of a higher overall social value (which would include looks/genetics), then it still doesn't seem to apply, because there would be little to no commitment from the alpha. If we assume the woman is trying to marry the alpha, while fostering support from the betas as a backup in case it falls through, then the woman would forever be content when she succeeds until she came across a guy with a high enough difference in value to make the risk to the existing relationship worth the chance. It would also mean hypergamy isn't a female thing. If looks work into that social value, then we definitely fit that definition of hypergamy. We may have different criteria for judging that final value, but we definitely like women of high value.

Because men often desire a women of a slightly lower caste or social value to ensure they stick around longer, the only way men could less hypergamous is if the definition of hypergamy was strictly about social caste, and did not include looks. But I can't see the idea of hypergamy jiving with alpha fucks/beta bucks and acts of cuckoldry unless you include looks/genetics as part of hypergamy.

Can anyone help point out where I'm mistaken?
