Being tired of the slow paced online dating scene and not a big fan of night clubs I recently decided to try speed dating. The results blew my mind.
Background: There were 24 people at this event (12 of either gender). After every "date" of 3 mins, you mark down a yes or no for that person on a sheet and move on to the next table. If a person you picked picks you, they forward both of you each other's contact info.
To my surprise the quality of the girls was not very bad, nothing spectacular and half of them ugly but a few I would consider "hot" and "attractive" (8.5-7s). However all of them post wall in their early 30s. (doesn't matter for me I am merely there to make more fbuddies) The guys however were consistently "homely" looking. I thought I'd wipe the floor.
I picked 5 of the "most" attractive girls out of the 12 (might as well know than not). I figured I would get some matches plus a lot of picks from the fugly girls I did not pick. I was honestly trying to put my best face forward in all of the dates to maximize the chances (plus other girls can see you on all dates).
Here are the results:
You picked 5 people at this event.
5 people picked you at this event!
The men were picked an average of 1.47 times by the women.
The women were picked an average of 8.93 times by the men.
9 men received matches.
8 women received matches.
To my surprise I got 4 matches (which included the top 2 I actually wanted)! The reason I found that surprising is that out of the group of 7 fuglies... only 1 picked me... wtf were they thinking? It seems the fuglies were disqualifying themselves despite me being as charming as I can to them. I never thought women did that.
TL;DR/Epiphany: Sometimes going for lower quality can actually hurt your chances!
