We like to blame biology and feminism, but I've been wondering lately about the widespread use of hormonal birth control, the sub clinical side effects of progesterone like molecules tricking the female body into a permanent state of faux pregnancy. After a quick google search, no surprises:

Some excerpts:

*the researchers found that two particular regions, the lateral orbitofrontal cortex and the posterior cingulate cortex, tended to be thinner in those who were taking oral contraceptive pills. The lateral orbitofrontal cortex helps us regulate emotions and is thought to allow us to adapt our behavior in response to rewards or adversities, while the posterior cingulate cortex helps us evaluate our internal states. The researchers told Huffington Post that changes to the former could help to explain why some women experience negative emotional side effects, such as anxiety and depression, when they commence the pill. *

Not only do women feel sexually free, but these hormones are having an effect on the female brain too. Perhaps this is linked to the rise of BPD, narcissism, sociopathy etc that is becoming prevalent here in the west? Maybe permanently doping up women of childbearing age with the pregnancy hormones is actually a really bad idea?
