Note: This post is on Internal Game. I'm not talking about external stuff like lifting, getting a good job, etc. That stuff takes work. This is about your state of mind.

Some people have criticized "Just Be Yourself" by saying that it causes stagnation. Whoever you are now, if you just be yourself you'll always remain who you are and never become any better. They say it's only good advice for alpha men, who are already attractive, and it's terrible advice for betas who aren't getting any.

But if you think about it a bit more, it's still good advice anyway, and here's why. Humans cannot possibly stay the same, as we are designed to always be changing. You don't even get a choice in the matter. You can and do influence how you change, but whether you want to change or not, you always will change. Therefore, whether you think you're going to "make a big effort to change" or you don't think about changing, you're going to change as you grow and time passes. I argue that advice other than "Just Be Yourself" can often cause people to put a lot of unhealthy pressure on themselves which actually causes more negative results than if they just "were themselves".

For example, many people coming into TRP get the idea that they need to "be alpha", which puts pressure on them to develop a "macho" persona where they hold in their emotions, they feel like they always have to be "cocky and funny", always have to have witty responses, have to start staring contests with every stranger they walk past, have to get sexual with every girl they meet even if they're not attracted to her, etc. I'm not saying this happens to everyone, just that newbies to TRP often get the wrong idea at first. I know I did.

They don't realize that "being alpha" doesn't mean doing something to not be yourself. The people who are truly alpha don't even care about being alpha. They don't care about being the leader. Hell, they even find the responsibility a little bothersome (and because of that they tend to expect compensation). The only reason they are the leader is that they simply happen to have the best qualities for being the leader out of the group of people they're around at the time. A true alpha would give up his alpha position to and follow another man or woman who came along who was better suited to be the alpha.

A true alpha doesn't have a complex of wanting to always be alpha and get everyone to submit to him. He would love to sit back and relax and follow someone if a better leader came along. Those guys who seem like they are always the leader, it's not because of their choice and some big conscious effort, it's simply because they have the right qualities for it in that moment. They're not putting forth some big effort to be alpha, they're just "being themselves", which happens to be alpha.

So what about betas? Why should betas "just be themselves?" Because it's the only way they'll ever become alpha. Every boy is born a beta because he submits to his father. He learns that in this world you must put your ego aside. If you want to survive (in this case, be provided for by your father), you need to learn to beta yourself to people above you. And there's nothing shameful about that. It's absolutely the smart thing to do. You must follow the natural order of things. Before you can even have a chance at being alpha, you need to become comfortable with who you are right now.

Alphas are always comfortable with who they are in the moment. Even if you are always a beta, the best way to stay a beta is to become chronically uncomfortable with who you are. This will lead to constantly worrying and being in your head, which are qualities of betas. If you are always worrying about the changes you need to make to become alpha, you will forever remain a beta, because alpha is not a prize you achieve by making changes, alpha is a state of mind in the present moment. It is your internal state, of how comfortable you are with yourself and your abilities to take on any challenges which may arise. Someone who is always worrying about who's the alpha, am I the alpha, and if I'm not what tactics can I use to become it... that person has no chance at being alpha because they're so busy worried about being alpha, that if a real challenge actually came along they'd be all worked up and nervous and wouldn't be able to handle it calmly and effectively.

If you are ever going to become alpha, you must learn to embrace yourself. You cannot always be criticizing yourself, worrying about every action you take. You need to be able to just live your life like everything is natural and A-OK. That's why guys who are so called "naturals" find TRP and game advice to be weird. They have never needed to analyze themselves and question their actions. They've always just been themselves and haven't thought of any other option. "Just Be Yourself" is the motto of the alpha male, and if you want to become one, you must internalize it.
