Not in relation with picking up women, but in general.

Given that traditional masculinity - hunter, outdoorsman, farmer - is more rural based and I wonder how can one be a man in the urban environment that is designed for comfort and safety. For example I don't even get to drive my car to work (too slow traffic so take the subway) or get to set up a hobby workshop (apartment life, no garage) nor get to do any home improvement (our apartment is brand new and we pay a monthly fee for the co-op to do all the work). Life seems a bit like office, some exercise, TV, not much else. So it seems many of the common ways to masculinity are different in an urban lifestyle.

Examples of what I would like to see here:

  • Urban men formed amateur sports teams, getting exercise, competition and camaraderie in one go, three excellent manliness-boosting ideas.

Anything else that does not involve pick-ups? (Married, family guy.)

I know the usual stuff, lift weights etc. but beside that I am looking for less known historical examples, historical lessons of what city men living on the third floor did to feel like men.

Putting it differently: in what sense or way does high density living not only not inhibit, but even help doing manly stuff?
