My perspective on Marilyn Manson is that his mindset and his music is overflowing with slave morality. Manson isn't raging against the world for being blue but rather for not adequately living up to blue values. I think that his core audience is socially awkward and marginal boys seeking catharsis in edgy shock rock and violent imagery. I think he is addressing this audience directly with songs like The Beautiful People and The Fight Song. If I wanted to be more blunt I would categorize Manson's music as nerd posturing. He has built his career around telling himself and his audience what they want to hear, pandering to their emotional vulnerabilities. When I say this I'm not condemning them, after all no one chooses to be a lost boy. Rather I say this to administer a bit of tough love and to say that the last thing they should be doing is looking up to Manson or absorbing his values. Manson's music is comforting anesthesia for precisely the people that most need to be seeking uncomforting answers and mentors. Manson's core message seems to be "if you don't fit in, don't worry it's all bullshit anyways." Is it really all bullshit? Certainly there is no shortage of bullshit in the world, but if we're really being honest with ourselves we value and aspire to beauty and the esteem of the people around us.

Any imagined criticisms of Manson are assumed to be coming from prude social conservative religious types which is easy to have a laugh about since those were the people they wanted to shock anyways. This only serves to reinforce the Mansonite belief system. The irony is that Manson, in his rejection of material biological humanity ostensibly in favor of transcendent values, shares more in common with Christianity that he would be comfortable to admit. For all his anti-religious imagery, Manson's reasoning is religious on a fundamental level. But what about the villainous jocks whose role is to function as antagonists and somehow be ritually defeated through Manson's over the top edginess and rejection of society? The jocks don't seem particularly concerned with religion or prudery and embody red values.

MISC NOTES: Someone mentioned Manson as the epitome of RP in another thread. I was going to respond in thread but I thought it was important and interesting enough to merit its own thread. Mods, If you nuke this I won't be mad. Also I checked and yes, bluest is a word.
