This is mostly for new guys.
In light of a post regarding emotional vulnerability, I wanted to share a story that has stuck with me ever since I was a foolish BP pussy gaining a worthless degree in Literature. The nice thing about many of the literary greats, however, is their consistent RP perspectives. So much so that you'd think I would've learned something before graduating. Oh well.
Anton Chekhov wrote a short story called Misery in 1886.
Read it real quick. Seriously, stop reading this post and read the short story. It should not take you long.
The story is about a man who has been through more emotional, mental, and, probably, physical hardships than most on this sub will ever encounter. A horse-driven cab driver in an intolerable Russian winter. A dead child. A sharp headache. Broke. And, to top it off, nobody giving a fuck about any of it. Worse, they'd prefer him not to speak, and let him know. So, in whom does he confide? His horse.
But, that's our lot.
Nobody wants to hear about your problems, not even men, and especially not women, as they'll find you abhorrent. We do, of course, because we've been there and have absolutely no responsibility to one another. You're not in my cab, you're not my friend or brother. You're words on a screen that I can understand; to which I can relate. Slightly better than Iona's horse.
But you need to find your horse, eventually. You need to get off TRP and Reddit and find an object that will not speak, only listen, so that you can learn and grow and become valuable whilst pouring out your boring, unimportant problems. Learn, now, that you are disposable, alone, and you needn't confide in others because you can bear it.
Our spaces have been taken from us, so let long-dead Russian authors, or German philosophers, or Greek poets be your mentors. Be glad you live in such a time that you can read Plato, Dumas, and Nietzsche in the same day, and for free! You can learn calculus online, or how to start a fucking farm. The world has laid out the tools you need to be great, so stop bitching and moaning and take advantage.
This post is somewhat for myself. I need to take my own advice from time to time, to stop coming here since I've learned.
Ecclesiastes 2:16 says "How dieth the wise man? Even as the fool." Spend your time wisely, cause it's gonna pass regardless. Be valuable and fuck women, then die. It's much more fun than being miserable, then dying.
Edit: Because a Lit major should be a better writer.
