In my various relationships this is something I've given a lot of thought to, but I'm curious about fellow RP opinions. Names should have meaning, and that meaning will follow your children through their entire lives. I would want to name my first son Hero, and my first daughter Song, but the onus would be on them to live up to these ideals and it just seems like tempting fate. As a "Steven" I can't imagine how the pressure to live up to their name would affect them. But then again Steven means crown and I feel no particular pull towards royalty. Why is it when the names are simply English words it seems douchey or out-of-place?

So then there's family names. This is where I assume most of us fall, I myself was named after my maternal Grandfather. I would also like to instill strong family values in my children. The "Junior" seems like a dying tradition, but I'd sooner pass on my own name than my father's or his father's, not out of spite, but I don't particularly care for those names.

And then there's the third option: Pick a name out of a hat like my single-mother sister. Yeah, no thank you.
