This is quite a bit off topic, but I feel this does deserve a post.

So, there are 3 types of guys:
1) Clean shaven
2) Is a spectrum ranging from 5 o'clock shadow and a well groomed beard(Usually no longer than a couple inches)
3) Wizard/santa beard(Some examples in this category CAN actually be a part of #2, depending on the level of neglect).

I'll make the general assumption that most of you fall under #1, since it aligns well with other examples of grooming.

Anyway, those of us who do shave, spend a maximum of 10 minutes each morning cleaning our faces.

However, this is a robotic and unsatisfying experience, and if you're using an electric razor, produces a sub optimal shave that literally gets back to the 5 o'clock shadow phase within 3 hours.
An electric razor never produces a smooth face.
And cartridge blades are set up in such a way that you're cutting at the root of the hair, which may cause ingrown hairs, infections and acne.

This... Is not how it's supposed to be.
When you wake up, you should take the time to clear your mind of the previous day's bullshit, and mentally prep yourself for the coming day.

Before going further:
You WILL get cut.
And it may not be for you.
Before commiting, see if there's a pass around bundle in your area(a group of shaving enthusiasts fill a box with goodies, and it gets sent around to pwople who want to try it out). If you do sign up for one, please follow all rules regarding the pass around(There's even a sub right here which you can check out).

Enter wet shaving.
You start off with prepping your face for the shave with a towel soaked in warm water(around 60 degrees celsius).
At the same time, your brush is soaked in warm water.
After a couple minutes, you shake the water off, and place a bit of shaving cream on the brush, and lather it in a ceramic bowl to keep the lather warm.

Once the lather is ready, you massage it into your face with circular motions using the brush.

Then you start the shaving;
The first pass is done with the grain, generally from cheek bone to jaw bone, however ymmv(Right side of my face is like that, left is from the corner of the mouth towards the ears).

The next step is done across the grain (90 degrees vertical).
You may go a second XTG pass from the opposite side(For example, if the grain is cheek bone to jaw, the first pass would be ear to courner of mouth, second XTG would be from corner of mouth to ear).

The last step is done against the grain, and HAS to be done last, because the stubble needs to be as short as possible if you don't want to get cut.

Why should you switch?

Honestly, the main reason should be financial:
A basic double edge handle goes for 10 bucks.
A basic boar bristle brush foes for about the same (Though, to be honest, you should consider going for a badger brush, which could go from 30 to 70. above that are boutique hand made brushes that are sold in tiny quantities and can set you back even 400).
100 double edge razors go for about 15 to 30 bucks depending on brand and coating(A small note: While they go to great lengths to hide it, despite King C. Gillette essentially pioneering the double edge, Gillette still produces at least 4 different types of de razors).
And while they are considered single use, if you dry it off after the shave and keep it dry, you can probably get between 2 and 6 from each one.
The soap will set you back 30 bucks at most, and a 150 gram tub will last you almost a year.

Other than that, you've got your pre shave and post shave products, alum blocks, after shaves, balms, etc.

So I mentioned financial:
A 12 pack of fusion cartridges goes for 40$ at walmart.
This lasts you about a month.
If you're me, and your stubble is essentially sand paper, you will be changing a blade after every shave.
Those 100 de blades that go for up to 30 bucks?
More than 3 months.
The handle itself will set you back another 30, and that plastic piece of shit will need replacing in a decade tops, while the safety razors are pure metal, and will outlive your grandkids.
Then you have the canned goo, which is expensive as fuck, and lasts three months tops.

Other than the financial side, there's also the health side.
Go ahead. Pick up your canned goo and read the ingredients.
You know what's inside a decent shaving soap?
Scent extracts, some animal/vegetable fat and little else.
What's more, that foam you get from canned go?
Has no real mass to it.
The objective of the lather is to provide lubrication, while at the same time, the micro bubbles in the lather lift up the hairs so that it will be easier for the blade to cut.
And I mentioned the multi blade causing ingrown hairs;
Cartridge razors are purposefully made dull.
The first blade grabs the hair, pulls it a bit outside, and slices at an angle. the next blade slices the hair at an even bigger angle while pulling the hair out even more.
Once the pass is done, the end of the hair is located under the skin.
A de blade cuts the hair at a near horizontal angle.
To give an easy visual, imagine cutting a cucumber in half once at about 90 degrees, and once at a 45 degree diagonal.
After a few shaves, you'll feel your stubble being coarser, but that's actually because the edge of your stubble is a full hair instead of a tapered cone.

Lastly, but arguably the most important:
It forces you to focus.
You can't let yourself be distracted by anything, because you need to keep focus on the blade motions and angle.
You will finish your shave refreshed, calm and focused.
The time you spend shaving is even more intimate than your shower time, and is absolutely only yours.
So why waste it on a shit experience, if you can instead use it to prepare for the day ahead?
