It is well known that testosterone is the androgenic hormone responsible for masculinization of the fetus. However, there are a few misunderstandings thrown around about testosterone.

When you think about a man with high test, you may think of the aggressive convict or criminal who's ready to bash someone's head in, or you may think of the AMOG going around and intimidating guys at the club.

While aggression seems to be linked to testosterone, it is not true that men with high testosterone are always aggressive. Studies show that testosterone is highly correlated with (possibly causative of) dominant behavior, defined as behavior to maintain or advance in rank or social standing. High testosterone is only linked to aggression when aggression is linked to dominance.

To illustrate this, there's an example of in the study above that explains the testosterone levels of a non-aggressive but dominant prisoner compared to those of an aggressive, dominant prisoner were not significantly different.

For those trying to emulate the characteristics of a masculine (read high testosterone) man, dominance should be favored over aggression, and aggression should only be used as a means to establish or maintain dominance. Misplaced aggression is a waste of time and energy.

TL;DR: Testosterone = dominance which may include aggression, but only when aggression is used to establish or maintain dominance.
