THE OPERATIONAL SEX RATIO (OSR)

What is it? The OSR is the ratio of FERTILE men to FERTILE women. Why is it so important? Quite simply, it is not the actual sex ratio (50:50) that matters in the human mating market. It's the OPERATIONAL Sex Ratio that matters. First, lets flesh out the concept and then quantify it:

The OSR can be viewed over a long period of, say, a year, OR, (more consequentially for picking up horny ovulating women) it can be observed for a single day. There are always far more fertile men running around. Yet, not a single person I've ever spoken to about this has guessed how striking the imbalance really is. Let's take a look:

Disregarding infertile people of reproductive age for the moment (plus pregnant women, nursing women, etc), we can get a rough view of the annual OSR just by looking at demographics. In the USA, if we restrict the female pool to 15-44 (generous) and we look at the male pool from 15-70, we get a rough OSR as follows:

About 115,000,000 men. About 63,000,000 woman. Just shy of a 2:1 fertile men to fertile women ratio.

2:1 may be the most consequential view of the OSR, but it's worth considering how it balloons in narrower time frames.

Recognizing that women are only fertile part of the month, let's discount down to about 10% of the women to find what the approximate DAILY OSR is in the United States:

About 115,000,000 men. About 6,300,000 women. Just about an 18:1 ratio of fertile men to fertile women DAILY.

That's right, for the only sexual intercourse that is consequential evolutionarily, there are about 18 men capable of impregnating every fertile woman on any given day. Now, if we categorize the top 20% of fertile women as "most attractive":

About 115,000,000 men. About 1,260,000 "most attractive" fertile women. Just about a 90:1 ratio of fertile men to the most attractive fertile women, DAILY. Yes, about 90:1.

Naturally, such a woman will choose the best from that pool. The OSR reinforces Hypergamy, but that is not its only effect.

The implications of this simple fact for the organization of a functioning society (and the relationship of societies to one another) are many, but I'll save the detailed outline for another post. The OSR touches almost every aspect of human life and how we organize ourselves, particularly with respect to social conventions that limit or outright cull the male pool to create a more favorable ratio. One method worth pondering immediately though, in light of Red Pill theory, is the function of blue pill conditioning as a male culling mechanism in replacement of large scale warfare (which served this function in the past). The intensity of male competition necessitates you be at the top to win, mathematically, even if women didn't have an instinct to choose the best. Other men will take measures (often sophisticated measures) to enhance their position and push you out of the way. Egalitarianism is not even possible because every fertile man cannot be ensured the resource he desires most - a fertile woman. Various forms of male voluntary retreat from the mating marketing (monogamy, MGTOW, etc.) and involuntarily retreat (prison, death in war, etc) are the two methods of reining in what would otherwise be constant conflict.

The important thing to recognize in terms of your personal sexual strategy is the outrageous imbalance at work on both small and large time frames. The idea of striving to be a top 20% male may have merit for men in their 30's (who are already somewhat higher in SMV), but when looking at the entire pool of fertile men, the math says you really need to strive to be more like top 1-5%.

Tl; dr; The OSR (ratio of fertile men to fertile women) is what matters, not the 50:50 sex ratio you are accustomed to thinking about. Striving for top 20% is probably insufficient. Sexual benefit flows to the top exponentially, even more so than you think; there are problems with this for society which I will address later.
