It's amazing isn't it. If you have half a brain, you wouldn't dare show up to a car dealership and agree to purchase the first car you sit down in. Even if you really like that 2017 Camry, you're at least going to take a look at the Corolla, and probably even the Avalon. Because it's a big commitment and it's the smart thing to do.
When you go to pick out an apartment - even if you only plan o being there for a year or two - you're not going to sign any sort of lease without at least checking a few places out.
Why? Again, because it's a lengthy, expensive fucking commitment. And lengthy, expensive fucking commitments warrant careful weighing of options.
So let's look at all the guys we know who are in less than stellar relationships... I can think of two right off the top of my head. Ask yourself, what are the chance that your buddy/coworker/or brother was considering several other girls when he committed to the one he's with now?? What are the chances that he was even deciding between her and ONE other choice?
Chances are, he got tired of jerking it and being single, and dove head first into the first thing that would make it Facebook official.
Sure, there were probably other girls he was into at the time - probably at least one that he would have even preferred to be with - but let's be real, his current girlfriend was the only option that would actually take him.
It's amazing that this same buddy or bro of yours spent 2 months researching and comparing options to find the perfect make/model and dealer for his car that he'll drive for the next 5 years... but he didn't do any of that for the relationship that will end up costing way more, and could last the next 25-30 years.
Why'd he do this? Was it because when he met his girlfriend, he was so head over heels for her that he knew any first dates or romantic evenings with anyone else would be a waste of time??
Well not exactly. When he was buying a car.. his job and his credit history entitled him to a variety of options to choose from and gave him some power in the decision making process.
But when it came time to find a mate/potential wife, salary and credit aren't the driving forces behind buying power.... but rather desirability...and he is well aware that his desirability is too low to command other options. In fact, he's probably just thankful there's a single option being offered to him.
So with that, I'll conclude with this thought: If the dealership only gave you one make/model to choose from for your next car, what are the chances that it's going to even be a remotely good fit for you?
Increase your desirability, increase your options, make a decision that's better for everyone.
