Hello everyone. I've been a lurker on this sub for a while and have been religiously reading theories on the sidebar. I'm an asian male in his junior year (11th) in high school. I'm a fairly nerdy guy taking all AP classes, but I'm also pretty athletic too, playing JV and Varsity soccer.

Our junior prom was just yesterday and I was hoping to get some feedback whether or not I handled some situations correctly. Before prom, I decided to ask a childhood friend to go with me; I've known her since elementary school and we talk occasionally. During our pre-prom, a gathering at a house before prom for taking group and individual pictures, everything went really smoothly. We took nice pictures together and complimented each other on our attire.

But at prom, everything took a turn. My partner is an asian female who is friends with an asian girl circle as well as a white girl group. A week ago, she asked me if I'd be comfortable sitting with her white friends. I didn't really know any of her friend's partners, but I wasn't uncomfortable at all since I'm pretty good at talking and meeting new people. At prom, the teachers told everyone to form groups and sit with them at tables for 10. While they were doing that, I made the mistake of running to the restroom. When I came back in a couple of minutes, I expected my partner to save me a seat next to her, but I found that she situated herself between two of her friends. I was kind of confused. My partner is a generally chill and caring person, but this was blatantly disrespectful. Perhaps she was pissed off because I ran to the BR? But honestly I didn't care at the moment and I whispered to her asking if she'd like to move across the table where there were two open seats. In response, she told me that she was too lazy to move and proceeded to stare at her phone totally ignoring me. I was pretty pissed off by her attitude; I mean we came as partners so she should have some courtesy to sit with me. I then asked her friend next to her if she could bump one seat down. She said yes and did so looking puzzled at my partner.

This part wasn't too bad. It wasn't that big of a deal and I resolved the situation fairly quickly. I decided to ignore the incident and focus on having a good time out. When the DJ started playing music, people started getting up to dance. I naturally asked my partner if she'd like to join in with me. She replied that she'd rather hang out with her friends and dance with them. I was taken aback but I thought since we went as friends maybe I was overstepping. So I decided to not pursue the issue and went to find my friends and had fun with them.

Later during the evening, dinner was served via buffet. People started to get in line with their partners, so I tried finding my partner so we could get in line as well. After a solid 10 minutes of searching, I literally couldn't find her. I then decided to get in line by myself and served myself some dinner. When I returned to my table, I found my partner and the rest of her friends and their partner already eating. I know that I'm not supposed to get annoyed by this, but I was starting to get irritated with my partner.

After dinner (around 9:30ish), the DJ started to play slow songs for couples. Since we came together, I asked my partner if she'd like to dance. She responded that she was going to leave soon with her friends so she didn't want to get sweaty. This was complete bullshit since who the fuck sweats from swaying. Perhaps this was a shit-test, but I was honestly too tired of her attitude and left the table to join my friends who came solo. From across the hall, I saw her leave 10 minutes after so we definitely had time to dance, but she just chose not to.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed with my first prom experience. I had been looking forward to the event especially since it was my first formal dance party. Looking back at the event, I think my partner acted like that because of her friends. When she is with her asian friends, she never acts like she does-- my partner was always nice and caring to others. Yet, when she was with her other group of friends, she suddenly changed. She started to fit the stereotypical trashy asian girl. This video might show a better representation of what I'm talking about at the 5:14 minute mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW1a3UOAIaw

After prom, she's messaged me a couple of times asking me for pictures we took and asked if I had a fun time. I didn't answer yet because I don't even know how to respond. I don't want to talk to her again but that's being childish and I'm more mature than that. I'd appreciate any feedback and advice on how to pursue this further. Thanks for reading.
