Yeah, I've experienced intense states of self judgement while on psilocybin. Every negative feeling you're able to ignore in life, is unavoidable while tripping. It forces you to think about what's making you feel that way and how you can fix it.... kinda like an EXTREMELY intense therapy session.

[–]trudatness 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Adversely, ecstasy does the polar opposite.

Every negative feeling is erased. It's all good

Well, the first couple of times you do it anyway.

After a while it contains the same amount of fear and loathing any other drug gives you.

Molly can just as easily be cut, if not easier. ALWAYS test it.

Next time you roll - listen to the Beasties

Both drugs are currently being researched in exactly this manner to help treat depression and PTSD.

Eh... There are limits to everything.

Steve Jobs tripped on acid. I'd wager that had something to do with his visionary ability. However, I don't think he went on acid trips during his actual tenure as Apple CEO.

Taking LSD was a profound experience, one of the most important things in my life. LSD shows you that there’s another side to the coin, and you can’t remember it when it wears off, but you know it. It reinforced my sense of what was important—creating great things instead of making money, putting things back into the stream of history and of human consciousness as much as I could.

Well Steve was bullshitting somewhat, seeing that his offshoring policies had zero to do with putting things into the stream of history and of human consciousness and everything to do with paying people $1.50/hr to make $600 phones. Steve was cold-blooded ruthless when he needed to be.

I certainly can attest that using LSD a handful of times when you are college-aged can reveal some otherwise unknown truths to you. However, if you make LSD a recreational habit there's probably a good chance you'll end up hurting yourself in some fashion. It's not wise to soak your brain in that chemical excessively. I'd say anything more than 5 trips in your lifetime will cease having any beneficial effect and become a very risky roll of the dice in each instance.

When you are young you want to explore all mysteries and the drug mystery is one hell of a journey. You fashion yourself some sort of intellectual Aldous Huxley or Jim Morrison quoting Nietzsche and Blake as you obliterate societal constructs while traveling on your road paved of excess.

Then something happens...

You find yourself all of a sudden surrounded by darkness. The precepts of the social contract erode dramatically. After all, this was the effect you sought out. You wanted to smash through the barriers a corrupt society has placed in front of you - and succeeded in doing so - what you find on the other side is alarming. It's the freak show. It's not fun like the circus. It's a dark, soulless existence driven by pure unadulterated reactionary compulsion. You see it in every individual sharing your scene. You sought to free yourself from hypocrisy and corruption and now find yourself in a world dominated by hypocrisy and corruption - drug dealers, thieves, liars, addicts - all black-hearted hustlers of one sort or another.

You can't believe it. You have better origins than the filth you've come to be a part of, but you become stuck in it like a tar pit. It stains you. It intrudes into your being. It changes you. Eventually, it corrupts you.

I can tell you this much... If you survive relatively unscathed and after the necessary cure, manage to thrive... You will be the exception to the rule - the statistical outlier. Drugs are a heavy gamble when seeking wisdom. Even a successful gamble will still extract a price from you. Be cautious. It can be a tightrope akin to a razor's edge. Carry with you a healthy respect for the damage it can do to your life.

I've had similar realizations off weed in regards to society and social constructs. I get so analytic that I don't smoke around people anymore because I'm just sitting there all quiet.

[–]trudatness 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm completely straight edge now and have been for years, but I had my time with it.

Weed is child's play compared to what is out there. Then again all shit affects people differently.

Hopefully, you'll get to a point where you won't need that deep introspection any longer.

If you start seeking oblivion - sweet sweet oblivion - that's a sign of trouble.

I love having an unencumbered mind, free from chemical influence, but that's where my journey has taken me.

What is this?

[–]spamaccount69 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

DMT is simply revelatory. It is the single most beautiful, intense, personal, amazing, awe-inspiring, unique, absurd thing that you can do. You will believe in god.

You can assume anybody who doesn't think using psychedelic drugs can help with self improvement has never tried to. They can connect you to your inner self in ways that aren't otherwise possible. It can really be an eye opener and taking them moderately can increase your IQ and creativity but obviously too much is no good and you could end up with a lazy eye and talk to yourself regularly, with LSD anyways. And it's easy to become a lazy stoner if you smoke every day. Just don't take too much at one time, too often, or think that you're going to find God if you trip hard enough, and you'll have a positive experience.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Moderation is key, basically.

I have done psychedelics in the past and have a profound appreciation for them but I am worried they cause people to focus too much on emotion than logic. If you think about it psychedelic use exploded at about the same time feminism started picking up steam. Pretty much all of the hippie flower children were feminists. It is human instinct for men to care about womens emotions and women to care about womens emotions, and it is my strong opinion that acid exaggerated this. Rational thought is put on hold when you're tripping balls and the emotional connections stay pretty strong for long after you come down.

I recommend only doing psychedelics when you are completely alone and you don't have to worry about what other people are thinking of you. You wouldn't want a whole bunch of friends and strangers sitting in on a therapy session would you? There are great benefits to be had from exploring your psyche in the intense way psychedelics offer. But they are a terrible party drug and should be approached with a highly critical, undistracted mind.

DXM has been by far the most beneficial psychedelic/disassociative drug I've ever taken and has improved my life tremendously. Don't let the lolrobitussin crowd fool you, it's serious shit.

Drug induced state is not a self improvement. Will you call drinking coffee or alcohol self improvement? Ha ha

Your pride in your ignorance is inspiring - the whole 'fuck evidence, fuck facts, this is what I believe and I'm right'. Keep it up.

What you're telling yourself is, this couldn't possibly help? How could it? I'm not in control.

The point of psychadelics is to show you, link you with your subconscious mind in the most unfathomable, flabbergasting, awe-strucking way. It varies from experience to experience, but it shows you your past, shows your desires (future), your failures and success.

Being in control all the time can be tricky, especially because you rationalize the unrational, you lie to yourself. Psychadelics destroy that barrier by giving you the gift of honesty from deep within you.

It's up to you what you do with the gift after experiencing it.

Since we are talking of getting caught, what happens when you fuck up and do? You realize the extreme repercussions that happen in the US when you're caught, right? Getting caught with an ounce of weed can completely ruin your life, so what of a drug like LSD or MDMA(rhetorical question)? Is it worth that risk, completely tossing the physiological and psychological side effects aside?

To be honest man, this all seems like a fear based reaction... I understand if you're cautious about losing your job or getting "caught". But all it takes to mitigate these risks is a little planning and common sense....

Is it worth that risk, completely tossing the physiological and psychological side effects aside?

It obviously is since since so many people have risked it and express how great the benefits are. You would never truly know because it doesn't appear as if you've ever experienced it. I would tell you, yes, it's worth it. But that means nothing to you because you'v never experienced the benefits in the first place so you have no frame of reference.

I would think that people would jump at the chance to expand the understanding of their mind and gain knowledge about themselves and their life and a deeper understanding of life in general.

If you really feel as you won't benefit, that's fine. But using America's flawed war on drugs as a reason to not experiment with something that has such a potential benefit is a bit silly.

To be honest, yes, the majority of them are irresponsible. The functioning ones are in a minority.

Now you're just talking out of your ass...

I'm sorry to hear that you don't like Cannabis and there's nothing wrong with your choice not to use it, but that's no reason to be ignorant.

The psychedelics I've seen mentioned in this thread and ecstasy are not "harsher".

http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rational_scale_to_assess_the_harm_of_drugs_(mean_physical_harm_and_mean_dependence).svg

Yes there are many drugs that are bad for you. No, not all drugs (used in moderation) are bad for you. Do proper research before using any.

[–]Raggos 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It's ok either way you take it. Defensive assumptions do not bother me, we all have our views, I'd just like to say that the next time you assume that the people are uneducated, you might do a paradigm shift, sometimes, just sometimes, it may be a PhD researcher or someone VERY focused on career you're talking to. Perhaps the person has talked to multiple professors, done a thesis regarding this subject, has an MBA degree alongside a multitude of other achievements.....one can never know.

Good luck with your improvements, remember not to stop, ever.

P.s. There is a proper way to take mushrooms, sometimes it acts like a catharsis effect (hence the time span). The recommended frequency is once every 6 months.

[–]Zunscriii 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can't compare Psychedelics to alcohol or caffeine.

[–]Radical_unit -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes I can. All of them alters brain chemistry.

[–]Zunscriii 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But not in the same way.
