They probably cherry-picked answers to prove their "science" experiment. Remember that this was made for a show on the Discovery Channel. The first guy getting a 4 is outrageous. Even as a heterosexual male, there's no way that I would rate that guy that low. Not even average? Bullshit.

I wonder if it was the salary or the job itself. I'd bet that the retail clerk would have been rated higher if he was listed as a bartender or travel photographer instead. But on the other hand I'm uncertain if a $245,000 trust fund baby would lose any points for it.

I understand the trade off of looks for the man's capacity to make money. A self-made baller is more worthwhile breeding stock than a pretty boy. But somehow I think whats really going on here is shes seeing herself in a Mercedes and is more than willing to sacrifice her offspring's genetic quality for some unneccesary luxury possessions. Which is sickening.

There was the OKCupid study that showed when men rate women they create a bell curve with the peak at the centre of their 5 point scale. That is, guys as a group will rate an average girl as being average, about a 2.5/5. OTOH, women rate 80% of men as being below average with the typical (modal) guy being more like a 1.5/5.

There could be a lot the researchers could be doing to botch these results. Giving specific salaries would cue the women to include it in their "fitness" assessment rather than purely on looks. The results might have been different if they only mentioned an occupation (physician and local musician, for instance).

OKCupid also had a different experiment where they concluded that looks and personality (based on the profile which tends to contain career and income information) were essentially the same.

Alpha can be a "noun" or an "adverb".

In other words if you call someone a literal, fully realized, this guy is the leader of the pack, top dog, wealthy and sexually attractive guy so he really is "Alpha"... would be using the word as a "noun".

If a guy is in a "relative" or "ascending" position in the Heirarchy he can be described as "Alpha" as an "adverb" so:

"That guy was tough as shit man he was making all the right Alpha moves. He was ambitious."

...but his present actual rank isn't mentioned.

Alpha can be literal ("noun") or subjective ("adverb").

Ambition can be as attractive as actual success to women. Women love aggressive social climbers who look like they are headed for the top even though at present they are at the bottom.

On the tv show "Reign" tonight there was a great quote about a guys soon to be ex-wife where the husband says:

"I know you will seek either a King or a Bastard."

...which is basically saying he knows how women think. Women want the King, but if they can't get the King those dirty Bastards are sure hard to resist. (his wife was cheating on him)

Didn't read the article but i'm pretty sure status, power and wealth is attractive on a woman too. It's just that men are more wired more visual.
