You can be kind but you need to to stay strong as a man so don't be sensitive/emotional.

It's simply the fact that men and women are inherently different in responding to your compassion and emotions. A good male friend can hear your problems and struggles and not think less of you afterwards. A woman, especially one you are romantically involved in, WILL see you as weak, or at least weaker than she thought. You can be kind and caring, but it needs to be within a frame of strength. You need to be able to do these things and still be immovable and ultimately unaffected.

There are a lot of caring emotional roles a man can fullfill, be weary of why you feel the need to fulfill them. If you feed your need for attention or big brother fantasy on someone it is unfair emotionally both for you and him. You are robing him of the chance to earn your respect.

Despite the fact that women and society will judge you for not offering everything you have, to help those in need. There is a reason why pride is instinctive, and important.

Real case study:

Your friend is weak, his life is run by a bitch, he confides that he will be on the street in a couple of months because the B has a career. You have your own apartment, and you feel like he is staking out a move in offer. But not asking directly. You can either:

A: let him sweat and seek alternatives till the day comes, and then you bail him out under draconian conditions, meant to force him to improve his life and erase his codependent tendency.

b: be kind and say, hey move in with me I've got nothing going on and I won't even charge you anything for the first months seen as you gone trough such a difficult time. Beer and video games forever.

Beeing helpfull and suportive in such a way that it doesnt constrain your standing and stimulates people to lift themselfs up is true kindness, "bro" kindness if I may. Offering people the chance to walk all over you is weakness, be it your childhood friend or a girl, you should never jump at the chance to help someone, they should always ask first.

I never understood these types of questions. If you feel the need to ask others how to act alpha, you will never be alpha.
