Visualize catastrophe. The girl starts laughing at you and every single person in the room starts snickering and posting about you on twitter. You piss yourself on camera etc etc etc.

Keep visualizing until you can't help but laugh, and usually that does the trick for me.

Keep at it. Read as much as you can about the subject. Fake it til you make it.

Keep frame. You are the prize. She should be excited to talk to you. Exchange a few lines. If the conversation doesn't catch toss out a 'aggh, you didn't look like someone that was this boring. See you later'. Move on. Talk to a group of dudes about dude stuff. Chances are she will be stewing about you calling her boring and will be out to prove she isn't boring.

When you do strike out (as long as you didn't do something creepy like try to make out with her out of nowhere) if other guys hear they will probably subconsciously give you props for having the ball to do what they had been wanting to do for the last 30 minutes.

Failure will happen. Learn from it. Grow from it.

Whatever you do, do not formulate pickup-lines in your head prior to approach. Why? Because you want to think as little as possible so as to stem the tide of self-doubt.

When I have decided I want to approach a girl I base the first words that come of my mouth on any assumption I can make. Is she alone, looking at her phone and/or looking a bit lost? "I've heard about people that come to clubs on their own but I always thought that was a myth." Gage her reaction, decide if she's receptive enough and from there you'll know what to do so long as you don't over think it. If the girl is with her friends then don't initiate with her, you're going to game her by assuming value vicariously through her friends. If you're going for a pickup where the girl is with her friends then you will want to try your best not to alienate any one of them.

I have a good friend who is good looking and skinny-normal body size who has girls approach him simply for his looks but for the life of him cannot approach random girls. This lets him get in easy with 4-6's with maybe a 7 every now and then but he absolutely knows he can make more headway if he just had the confidence to approach. Know that (as /u/OKJaded has stated) you are the prize and your frame should reflect that.

I've learned that it's best if you just go for it before your brain talks you out of it. Don't think, just do. You'll come off as very confident and it makes things more natural, less awkward.

Here's my perspective I say go for the hottest girls closest first, get some practice. Basically realise that your day consists of many interactions with many women you usually don't ever have to see again. Don't got creeping on the girl in the corner if a girl across from you keeps looking at you. Be aware of IOIs and escalate from them at your will. I like to think its healthier to work with what you've got.

You have that fear because it is a genuinely strange thing to do, you've seen others who do it get laughed at and fail. Block that fear by realising its all in your head. Its a pretty alpha move when you pull it off, people end up respecting you. You even gain a reputation (if that's what you want... or not).

Also don't waste too much time fishing for IOIs from these girls, if they're busy then they're just busy, sometimes they're bored and you're just what they need. What I'm saying is, if its not getting hot and you've tried a few moves then don't embarrass yourself and move on quickly.
