It's not only what you say, but how you say it. Many men do not project their voices, or speak using the power of their lungs to convey authority and command respect. Rhetoric and oratory are skills sorely lacking in our day and age, but they are not lost. Life can be very good for those who combine the right words with the right speech.

One thing that I have found from my experience managing on the job is don't just delicate. If someone is having trouble respectfully and clearly explain things to them and one of the biggest things that has helped me as a leader is asking "what do we need to do to get this done," let me know if there is anything else we have to have," the point is to use "we" it lets people know that you are engaged as well you are in it "with" them and not above them. It gives people the perception that you are the best kind of leader. One that is involved. It had really helped me in the professional world. Especially in job searching when communicating with potential contacts, employers, and references. It shows willingness and connection before a connection has formally been formed. Just thought it was a little bit of good advice.

I would love to hear anything that others have to say about this or to help further help the role of becoming a leader.

Ehh, there's times where it's perfectly fine to apologize. An example, just last week I pulled into a parking lot and parked way too close to a guy. He started yelling and got out of his car claiming that I hit him, so I got out calling bullshit because I didn't feel any impact. Well we look at his side mirror and the thing is completely folded in, so lucky I didn't break it. When I saw that I apologized to the guy, truly a bad move caused by my poor parking skills.

Lesson is, only apologize when you truly fucked up. Apologizing over something stupid like offending someone will just make you look weak.

i remember in high school science class i always got designated leader of a group because i was the only one who paid attention. i wish i had found this stuff back then so i could've got some damned respect from the fuckwits i worked with.

Regarding "sorry," when I legitimately have made a mistake that I should address, I try to reframe it a little - example, say I've delivered something a little bit late to a client:

"I'm sorry that this took longer than we expected." NO

"Thanks for your patience on this." YES
