Okay, TRP is becoming a shitty LPT.

"No problem" is essentially a shortened "It wasn't a problem for me to help you out", or going a step further, "I'm okay with helping you out, don't worry", reassuring the person (subconsciously) that the favor wasn't too much trouble for you, thus

  1. easing their discomfort of having asked you for a favor in the first place (or simply that the favor happened),
  2. lowering your assumed need for a future reciprocation by downplaying the effort it took you to accomplish the favor.

First of all, what the fuck is wrong with all that?

Second of all, do you think anyone gives two shits whether you use one or the other? Do you think you'll come off as someone who speaks "with purpose and intent" if you use one over the other?

No. One. Gives. A. Shit.

You guys over-analyze everything.

[–]RPSigmaStigma3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"No problem" is essentially a shortened "It wasn't a problem for me to help you out"

Yep, and on the flip side, "you're welcome" is a shorthand for "you're welcome to ask for my help", essentially saying the same thing. Take a moment to ponder on this exchange:

A: "Thanks for inviting me over, it was fun!"

B: "You're welcome any time, it's not a problem at all! :)"

Just think about that. It's redundant, both clauses have the same meaning.

In fact, the origin of the phrase "you're welcome" means exactly "to please a guest", essentially saying "my pleasure", which, if anything, is even more supplicating than merely noting that it at most wasn't a problem.

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Great analysis of the post!

No. One. Gives. A. Shit.

Perhaps. But at least we're talking about it.

[–]SwagYoloJesus0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

No, I meant people in general, not that we don't, that would have been assholeish. We here do care, it's people in general who usually don't think twice about these petty pieces of language, nor do these have any effect on them subconsciously.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

On the flip side of that, "yup" is not an appropriate response to "Thank you" either.

You sound like a moron.

[–]DCLdit-5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's another great example of ‘disgusti-fied language’.

Keep 'em coming guys.

[–]RPSigmaStigma4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm a little confused as to what you mean by "disgusti-fied". Do you mean it disgusts you to hear other people say it, or do you mean you think it displays a level of disgust from the person saying it?

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm a little confused as to what you mean by "disgusti-fied".

I meant things I don't like other people saying.

Good question.

[–]RPSigmaStigma0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah. So, why not just say "disgusting"? Wouldn't that be the adjective for "things I don't like"? I mean, as long as we're discussing language usage here...

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah. So, why not just say "disgusting"?

You're so right.

I made up a word because I thought it sounded cool. But there ya go! That's a good example of someone (me) who misrepresented themselves.

I wrote a post about how "disgusting" certain parts of language were and I mucked up the language!

Cool observation and good call.

[–]CokedUpArmenian2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Can you guys think of any other ‘disgusti-fied language’

a better question is 'who cares?'

[–]1AreYouAware_2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Spot on. What exactly does this have to do with TRP?

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

As Men we should always mean what we say and not go out of our way to misrepresent ourselves.

Within the spectrum of self improvement it is wise for a young man to be conscious what comes out of his mouth. I'm of the opinion that "No problem" is a stupid and lazy way of communicating.

Conduct. It's about conduct.

[–]CokedUpArmenian1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

dumber communication leads 2 more poon

lol also thank u is lazier then no problem bcuz it uses 3 syllables instead of 2

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

dumber communication leads 2 more poon

In text message, I would agree with you.

But when your face to face with someone?

How does 'dumber communication' lead to poon?

Genuinely interested.

[–]CokedUpArmenian-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

u dont realize it until u hang out w/ ESOLs how many extra words we use

is easier 2 understand n if confuse they just laugh

u seem lower invested

n is more ambigous

ur non-verbal communication is magnified

[–]DCLdit1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Dumb communication equals more ambiguous?

If you said 'less' communication I would agree.

I'm not sure I follow but I'm still interested.

[–]TheWaysian1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Probably with some simple sluts who are looking for a quick fuck. But when it comes to RP Women with LTR goals and are very high value in an LTR sense, proper language can go a long way.

[–]penguin_says_slide2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Seems you're taking this a bit too seriously.

Take a chill pill mate :D

And before you thank me...

...no probs! ;)

[–]DCLdit1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...no probs! ;)

Ha that was great.

Seems you're taking this a bit too seriously.

I don't think so. It was an observation about how people communicate and I believe I've 'struck a nerve' with some people because they in fact talk like that.

Thanks for commenting!

[–]penguin_says_slide1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm.

You can actually take a joke. I respect you for that mate.

[–]SupALupRT2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

this seems such a beta thing to give a damn about one way or the other.

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

The process of 'unplugging' can open your eyes to a lot of things around you.

One thing can be how people communicate to each other.

This post was an observation about how lazy some people are with how they talk to each other.

People shouldn't go out of their ways to misrepresent themselves. An example of that is saying things like "No problem". It's LAZY.

Conduct. It's all about conduct and how you express yourself so others don't think you're an idiot.

Some people don't need this kind of introspection, like yourself, but perhaps some new guys do.

Thanks for the comment!

[–]TheWaysian 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What I've found often is that when someone is performing a service/favor for me, such as sending me an important document in the workplace, and we are having some talk about the document's details, as the discussion winds down and I thank them for bringing me the document and explaining it, they too will say 'Thank You' or 'Thanks'.

Thanks for what? What did I do for you? You were the one doing a favor for me. I'm always left puzzled after someone does that to me, and I often think they don't take social interactions with me seriously (I don't feel bad about this, it just lowers their perceived social fortitude in my own eyes).

Another one is when "I love you" comes into play. Obviously, there is an important part of when two lovers are exchanging this for the first time in an emotional setting, that it should be genuinely reciprocated. However, from the day-to-day "Love you"s and "Love ya"s, there can be a sense of throwing it around lackadaisically, just as a form of politeness. I go out of my way to not reciprocate this to loved ones in this way, not because I'm being a hardass or that I don't love them, but that when I do say it, I actually mean it, and I will take the time to make sure they understand that I truly mean it and not just tossing it around.

Similarly with "Have a nice day" and "You too!". At some point I began to feel disgusted with myself when strangers would tell me "have a nice day" and I would just toss out "you too", as if I really gave a shit when I said it. "You too" was just a polite phrase rather than a genuine one. Instead, I've started saying "Thank You" and leaving it at that, or when I'm exchanging with a close friend, I'll spin "You too" into "You too bud" or "Take care".

Since making these changes to my speech, I've been much more honest with myself in other areas of my life. "When I say I want to workout more, do I REALLY want to workout more, or am I just psyching myself out into feeling better about myself" "Do my friends truly understand that I love them and wish to see them succeed and prosper?" Etc.

What comes to my mind with this topic is actually a Bible verse that touches on the idea that "what flows out of the mouth is a reflection of the heart". Don't be the person who says things out of politeness. Sure, be polite with others, but when it comes to the content of your words, genuinely mean them, and say them in such a way so that others understand what you mean.

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey The Waysian.

You have some great examples of 'things people just say'.

You got it my man.

I guess I'm not that good at articulating myself but THAT'S what I was trying to get at.

Becoming honest with yourself you then become honest with other people. You are emitting your true self.

[–]williamwilliam2 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the French language, 'it's nothing' is the phrase spoken after 'thank you' (merci). But, there is an alternative.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Get this shit out of here.

You're way too concerned with trivial shit, which tells me that you have no real problems in life.

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hi IdiDadaAmin.

This post is an observation about how people communicate, sometimes, in a lazy way.

Some people don't need this kind of introspection, like yourself, but some people so.

If people were to 'just say things' without considering how they come off to others than they might be misrepresenting themselves.

If you're honest with yourself you can be honest with others.

[–]Telochi2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Here's another thing, when someone apologizes, you should say some variation on, "I accept your apology" as opposed to, "It's okay" because the latter makes the person feel like the behavior is okay to repeat.

[–]DCLdit1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"It's okay" because the latter makes the person feel like the behavior is okay to repeat.

This is the type of commentary I was hoping for. Being aware of how people communicate and then questioning that.

Cool observation.

[–]DCLdit-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is great. Loving the feedback. Giving me some things to ponder. Keep 'er coming.

[–]getomc-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As if saying, "I'm sorry," wasn't pathetic enough, doing it at a funeral seems to me the most disgusting time a person can think to say such a disgusting thing.

I don't know what to say and I can't be arsed to thibk about you personally so I'm just gonna repeat these hollow words thar everyone else does.

If you're going to do that, for Christ's fuckin' sake, use the right fuckin' words. That is, "[You have] My condolences" or if you really actually care offer to do something for the bereaved. Bonus points if you don't have to ask what.

That's my little cultural pet peeve.

[–]DCLdit0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey getomc.

That's my little cultural pet peeve.

Another great observation. This post was for guys like you. Who don't get butthurt about thinking about these kinds of topics.

Some people don't need to or don't want to take the time to observe their surroundings.

This whole 'unplugging' makes you aware of so much stuff. The lazy way in which people communicate is one of them.

[–]getomc0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can hear the critics downvoting, "But they mean good."

They meant WELL and if it's my funeral my will will state that anyone uttering these words is voided from inheritence. You ought to have known me better than that. Intent is for shit and hamsters. This isn't magic.
