Resistance is the key to strength.
Not only when you're lifting

** "Only the strong can be kind"** is something you need to truly understand if you are to improve and get to a place of strength and leadership.
The Nice Guy (tm) is often not only physically but more importantly mentally weak. He uses "niceness" as a way to rationalize his own weakness and how little he brings to the table. It's cowardice masquerading as good manners. He thinks he is choosing to be a Good Guy (tm) as a heroic sacrificial gesture when it's usually fear.
In the end that person will be at best an average reliable resource and at worst a dependent.
You can't show mercy if your the martyr. It's not a kindness to do the only thing you can or are willing to do.

Your post might seem obvious, but I really agree with it. For context, I am not the strongest guy out there. Not even close to it. I have a good amount of muscle, but for the most part am lean, and I'm also 5'8. In college I actually was told quite frequently I had a boy band look. Aka metrosexual and not someone in position to fight in the rare case shit goes down. Since then I've put on muscle, and am still working on it. BUT, back to your post: I've always had success in my life when it came to women, obtaining respect, being taken seriously, socially, etc, etc. But being a smaller, trendier guy - partly by nature and partly by choice - it takes a hell of a lot more work to demand and receive the results you want if you're not in some position of strength or power. I may get the same results as 6'2, 220 pounds of muscle Johnny, but I'm working twice as hard for it. That's partly the luck of the draw and partly my own doing. My point being, applying to the deeper insight from your post, life is unbalanced and inconvenient enough without you making shit harder for yourself. Opt for strength, opt for power, put in the work. There is no reward for doing it the unequivocally harder way.

started committing myself to weight training on 4/21 of this year. I've barely earned the right to stand at the starting line. But I must know what its like to get stronger. I feel a pinpoint focus when I touch that metal, feel the grooves sink their teeth into my palms.
Fighting the weight and exerting...simply moving. An object in motion stays in motion. 2 and a half months in and Im doing things I thought id never be able to. Im going to bed looking forward to tommorow.
A sword, thin and dull at first. Heated by motion and shaped by an iron hammer...folded, struck and cooled countless times. I want my body to tell a story of perseverance. Dealing with a minor pectoral strain at the moment...taking the opportunity to recuperate completely. Everything can be a learning experience.
I hope we can all learn our bodies potential.

Thanks for sharing this. It was really illustrative of the intense focus we should all feel hitting the weights. I may not be much to look at. I may not have much. But I can be carved of wood. I can be forged from iron. Made of steel.

I feel like Im competing against myself, and only myself. meditation has helped me immensely, my natural state is to take external experiences and analyze them internally as they happen...I think focusing on clearing my head of any thoughts pushes me to be the opposite and just "feel" then moment.
my go to method right now is imagining a lake or pond, every thought I have is represented by a ripple, the more apparent the thought the larger the ripple, and I just let them go and go and go and go...the idea is to have the water still for as long as I can. Only managing around 4-5 minutes, but every time I step back into the world I feel like nothing can bother me for a while.
Anyway thanks for reading, and thanks for your post.
