Narcissists and co-dependents are often attracted to each other. While a male narcissist/ female co-dependent relationship is tumultuous, it also fits the natural order and can last since the woman is dependent on the man. A relationship of a male co-dependent and female narcissist, on the other hand, is doomed for failure. I believe this has an effect on why decline was seen in relationships only when the woman was the narcissist. Of course, it doesn't take a co-dependent to be dissatisfied in a relationship with a narcissist, but they are more prone to those feelings of insecurity and alienation that the article talks about.

Men are attracted to hot women, narcissistic or not. My best guess on the issue is that narcissistic guys naturally employ dread/DGAF attitude and their women worship them. This gets them off and they probably have side pieces etc. but we know women don't often leave if you cheat and hold frame. When women worship and chase a man the relationship is usually reported as quality = good by both parties. He's getting all the sex he wants and she's happy to be pleasing a man that she sees as high value.

Narcissistic women still get worshiped by men, but we know that this turns women off. So there are huge problems with the relationship because she is disrespecting him all the time and when he "tries harder" to make everything better it turns her off more and leads to more disrespect. This leads to her resenting him for being controlling/upset/whatever she wants to frame it as. Self reported relationship quality = bad. We know her lack of respect leads to her not fucking him and so the guy and everything he tries to do to fix it ends up with him getting more disrespect... so his self reported relationship quality = bad.

So you're not wrong except when you say that men aren't attracted to narcissistic women. Narcissistic women aren't attracted to their men, that causes the problems and gets both parties self reporting the relationship as bad. Still usually the relationship only ends when the woman finally gets disgusted to the point of no return or, I guess more in reality, finally picks a branch to swing to.

Seems to me there are different ideas about what women are most attracted to. The Alpha is the guy with solid Frame (so he does not need to attempt self love) and great Game. (which is about manipulating others... not yourself)

I guess the Dark Triads who use Game to harm women through narcissism might be what this is about.

Any thoughts?

...I know we use the term "narcissism" as it relates to the dark side of Game, but there is an inconsistency to some degree.
