Be nice, just don't forget to be nice to yourself first. That was always my problem. I wasn't so much being nice to try to get something out of other people, but I was being nice too much at my own expense.

[–]DrakeSaint13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This a fucking thousand times.

Being nice "for free" will just undermine the inherent value of your "niceness". Be nice when she shows she can be nice. Don't just do it for the sake of it. Don't swallow their shit to be a "nice guy".

In the end, you'll HAVE to be an asshole to her shit tests and being a dick in these stuff is the perfect way to assert yourself that you won't take lightly this kind of behaviour. Be a nice guy, and she'll throw more back and forth.

[–]Dubba 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much. You have to be 'nice', but cannot let her walk all over you if she 'tests' you, because then she loses respect for you and your 'niceness' becomes a fault in your personality that looks an awful lot like weakness.

[–]captshady7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's it exactly. Often, your own self interests are what will give you the asshole label by women.

Scenario: You're at the gym, playing basketball with your friends, per a regularly scheduled weekly event, set up years ago. You're warming up, and your phone rings (or you get a text).

Her: I just made homemade spaghetti and meat balls, want to come over for dinner?

You: Sure, what time?

Her: Right now.

You: Well I can't right now, I'm playing basketball with friends. I can be there in about 2, 2 1/2 hours.

Her: Well, it'll be cold by then, and I have plans to do {whatever}

You: Okay, well, next time then.

 ~~ LATER ~~

She's crying on the phone to the guy that regularly kisses her ass, and would drop anything and everything to be with her, hoping it'll turn into a romance.

Her: ~sniff~ I wanted to romance him. I put on a new VS teddy I bought, and made his favorite food, and called him and asked him to come over, but he said he'd rather play basketball with his friends.

Male Friend: I'd never do that blah blah blah you're amazing blah blah blah you deserve better blah blah

Her g/f's: He is SUCH an asshole!

Her male friend: Why do women always go with the asshole!!?!??!!

EDIT: Spelling

Well said. Even if you don't expect anything from it, you need to look out for yourself first.

[–]randomdude60022 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The key to alpha-ness is that it's unselfconscious. Natural alphas are so enticing because they exude a presence that other people lack, a huge part of this is that although they may be polite or well mannered they don't second guess what they do from moment to moment. That's what's beta, constantly worrying about how other people are reacting to you and trying to win favor by pleasing them.

That's why I groan every time I see these "beta or alpha is this or that" arguments about explicit behaviors like pouring a bitch a glass of water or things you say in conversation. People are actually enabling their beta-ness by fixating on behavior analysis like this. It's far more fruitful to meditate or do some kind of introspective work to free yourself from anxious per-occupation with what other people think of you.

Be present, don't second guess yourself and go for what you want, that's the essence of alpha IMO

Don't be a nice guy. Be a good guy.

[–]1ThumpNuts2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. And be confident in your "goodness" and own it.

There are plenty of phoney pieces of shits out there that know how to be nice [pretending] for the sake of manipulating people's view of them... hell, sociopaths are great at this.

[–]el_chipi8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Completely agree. If you're a genuinely nice person, don't change... he was being nice and showing complete control of the situation, doesn't get any better than that

I think what people need understand is that faking niceness shouldn't be your means to get anything in life. Trp is about knowing who you are and constantly improving

[–]Gorgonzola5414 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I think you're missing a massive point.

The reason this guy can get away with being 'romantic'/'nice' etc is because he's...

"annoyingly handsome, 6 foot something, D1 track athlete. Always dressed well, a smart dude"

People like this are playing a completely different game.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is something to consider. A lot of shit goes out the windows based on circumstances. I have a friend, good looking guy, great with women, you'd think "OH MAN I NEED TO GET HIS SECRET SAUCE".

Was at a little get together he was hosting, a girl I know (she never met him before, never talked to him, knew nothing about him) really wanted to meet him and get to know him. He wasn't be "alpha" or cocky, not exuding any type of specific trait or body language. He was just standing around and talking like everyone else, he's just very very handsome and that was enough to cause this girl to get ultra tunnel vision for him.

Looks go a long way

[–]1ThumpNuts1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Bullshit.

I know a couple of guys that look like a fucking cave-man and a troll and they know how to play the "romantic" game... which is just old-school manners with the ladies.

They are both "Alphas." They are both swimming in pussy... pussy that is genuinely out of their league.

They're not rich, and not talented -- they are just super confident and very flirty with the ladies, and they know old-school manners. Personally, I'm a little too "macho" to do some of the shit they do [e.g. let women walk ahead of them - I think I man should be in front to "pave the way" and protect].

My father-in-law is a borderline Beta, but he plays this same game and women go gaga for him... meanwhile, this guy looks like John Madden.

I think that you're right, it changes with age.

When women are young and stupid, the good looks will carry your weight and it might be harder to tap that if you're not as handsome.

However as women start to hit that famous wall, (your FIL's age) looks aren't as important to women as say, manners.

[–]Endorsed Contributorbicepsblastingstud[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is undeniably a factor. Still, I think his general attitude is what really made the difference.

[–]athioent1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Be nice to your male friends, they actually appreciate it.

[–]musicbros0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ha. I remember my buddy had this 'friend' who was obsessed by the idea of being alpha (even though he was mostly all bark). Anyway, my buddy had a girlfriend who was kinda chubby and super insecure. After they broke up, his 'friend' decided to have sex with her and send pictures of himself doing it to my buddy. I found out while he was at a party bragging about it and my buddy was out of town. Naturally, my friends and I kicked his ass. I think the essence of having good game is to have excellent comradeship equity. Make sure all your friends have your back and you have theirs. Be kind, not nice.

[–]ryeprotagonist2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Polite RP'er weighing in...

I have found that since I am known by everyone to treat those around me with respect and politeness that when I do eventually call somebody on their shit, it is much more poignant and that everyone takes note (and generally takes my side, since "if the polite guy found something whack about that... then it must be whack".

The red pill shows a man to take pride in himself.

We can't help how other people behave, regardless of gender. The key of the red pill is to understand that you have value. Make yourself more valuable and do better. Work smarter to achieve goals that matter to you.

Take care of your health. In P.T. Barnum's book, The Art of Money Getting, he emphasizes this in the first chapter. If you don't have health, nothing else will matter. You don't have to have a physique like the Rock to get laid, but it is important to have strength to not get crushed in a fight.

I've personally always enjoyed reading, and it is not a hinderance. How has knowledge ever hurt anyone? Consider it a weapon used in any situation. Whether its talking to women, dealing with work politics, nutrition, other peoples experiences, fixing things. Anything. Better development of the brain makes for a better quality of man.

You are free to do as YOU wish with women. Red pill just makes you cognizant of reality. It isn't easy to adjust to.

Being "nice" isn't a bad thing. A better term is respectful. However, do not tolerate disrespect. That's the key.

[–]butter1rum0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

100% agree. There are too many assholes here on TRP.

[–]Human_v20 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can be 'a nice guy' once you are established as an alpha male. That's why women say they want someone who is nice and thoughtful caring etc. etc. They want an alpha who exhibits those behaviours.

If you are new to TRP I'd say avoid being nice and simply focus on yourself. When you have the confidence to not care what others think of you, you can be nice. It has to come from a position of power.

This seems like an easy excuse to continue down the same failed road as always while thinking you're making positive change. New readers here are always obsessing about not wanting to be the asshole but don't actually realise that the only reason they think those people are assholes is because they don't care what others think of them.

You can be alpha without being an asshole but you have to redefine what being an asshole means. Like many have said, do not allow people to use you because you want to do well by others.

[–]bob4job0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"nice guy" is a term we use to refer to pushovers. The kind of person that you refer to in the title would be a "good guy". Being a "good guy" is a great way to become friends with girls (without killing attraction) and expand your social circle. These friend girls can act as wingwomen or tell their friends how cool you are. I'm actually implementing this strategy right now

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was it being nice just for the sake of being nice? Yes. Did it diminish his "alpha-ness"? Hell no.

Well would he have done that for a male person too? I doubt it.

[+]insideman83-11 points-10 points-9 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Fuck, even I'm bored with that guy from just reading your post. Where's the fun in not being rude to women?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fun is both them sitting on your lap quietly begging you to take them home, plus what happens afterwards.

[–]lolyzor-3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

exactly, I did that few days ago on a buss, I was standing next to a girl, the buss was full so I had to stand, one girl left and another girl took her place and I said "wow you stole my seat" and I began my rude encounter with her while she was laughing to it, and I can see it in the eyes of the boys around me they were dumb founded, wtf is going on, he is rude and she is smiling, man did I enjoy that ride/conversation.
